Overview:
At PowerSchool, we power education for students around the world. As a global leader in cloud-based K-12 education technology, we help schools operate more effectively and support better outcomes for educators, students, and families.
Behind that mission is a global technology environment that has to stay connected, reliable, and ready for the people who depend on it. That is where you come in. Responsibilities:
As a Network Support Engineer, you will be a hands-on member of PowerSchool's global network team, helping keep our offices, people, and cloud environments securely connected.
This is a Level 2 network engineering role built around ownership and problem solving. When a network issue occurs, you will take responsibility for understanding what is happening, isolating the cause, restoring service, and seeing the issue through resolution. You will independently resolve issues within your level and partner with a Senior Network Engineer when the complexity, risk, or architecture requires deeper expertise.
Our enterprise environment is primarily built on Cisco Meraki, supported by Cisco networking technologies and an expanding AWS cloud footprint. You will work across all three while developing deeper experience in hybrid and cloud networking as PowerSchool continues evolving its infrastructure.
Because you will be onsite in our Plano office, this is also a highly visible role. You will support employees and senior executives directly, including C-level leaders, where technical skill matters just as much as responsiveness, judgment, communication, and follow-through.
What You'll Do
- Own Level 2 network incidents from initial triage through diagnosis, remediation, validation, documentation, and closure.
- Troubleshoot complex connectivity and performance issues and escalate higher-risk or architecture-level problems with clear findings, diagnostics, and recommended next steps.
- Administer and troubleshoot our Cisco Meraki environment, including switching, wireless, security appliances, VLANs, SD-WAN, VPNs, firewall policies, and enterprise connectivity.
- Support Cisco enterprise networking across switching and routing environments.
- Troubleshoot network issues across Layers 1 through 3, including TCP/IP, VLANs, trunking, spanning tree, routing, DNS, DHCP, NAT, firewalls, VPNs, and IPsec.
- Support AWS and hybrid-cloud connectivity, including VPCs, subnets, route tables, Security Groups, Transit Gateway, Route 53, and Site-to-Site VPN connectivity.
- Provide high-touch onsite network support to senior executives and business leaders, communicating technical issues, business impact, actions underway, and next steps in clear language.
- Monitor network health and performance, respond to alerts, investigate degradation, and use logs, packet captures, monitoring data, and diagnostic tools to identify root causes.
- Partner with teammates across PowerSchool's global network organization and provide backup coverage when colleagues in India, the UAE, Mexico, and other locations are unavailable.
- Support network changes and projects, including hardware refreshes, office infrastructure, migrations, circuit installations, and ISP or vendor coordination.
- Maintain accurate network diagrams, configurations, troubleshooting documentation, inventory, knowledge articles, and operational runbooks.
Qualifications:
What Will Help You Succeed
You do not need to know every technology in our environment. We are looking for someone with strong networking fundamentals, practical troubleshooting ability, and the judgment to know when to solve independently, collaborate, or escalate.
Required Skills and Experience
- 3+ years of hands-on experience supporting, administering, or engineering enterprise networks, preferably in a multi-site environment.
- Hands-on experience supporting Cisco Meraki in a production environment, including Meraki Dashboard and enterprise switching, wireless, security, and connectivity.
- Practical experience with Cisco enterprise switching and routing technologies.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, IPv4 subnetting, VLANs, switching, routing, STP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, firewalls, VPNs, and IPsec.
- Working knowledge of BGP and the ability to troubleshoot common routing and route-propagation issues.
- Experience supporting AWS networking concepts such as VPCs, subnets, route tables, Security Groups, and hybrid or site-to-site connectivity.
- Ability to troubleshoot methodically using logs, monitoring tools, routing information, diagnostic utilities, and packet captures.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues and business impact to both technical teams and business leaders.
- Demonstrated ownership, judgment, discretion, and follow-through when supporting high-visibility or business-critical issues.
Even Better If You Have
- Experience with Fortinet or another next-generation firewall platform.
- Experience with AWS Transit Gateway, Route 53, SD-WAN, public DNS, or hybrid-cloud networking.
- Experience supporting a global or geographically distributed enterprise network.
- Working knowledge of VMware vSphere or ESXi, Windows Server, or adjacent infrastructure technologies that help distinguish network issues from compute or application issues.
- Relevant certifications such as CCNA, Cisco Meraki Solutions Specialist, or an AWS Associate-level certification.
How You'll Make an Impact
Success in this role is not measured by how many technologies you can list. It is measured by how effectively you solve problems and support the people who depend on the network.
You will become someone the team can count on to take ownership of an issue, determine what is actually happening, restore service when possible, communicate clearly when the stakes are high, and bring in the right expertise when a problem moves beyond your level.
You will also have the opportunity to grow with our environment. You can bring strong enterprise networking experience today while developing deeper AWS and hybrid-cloud networking expertise as PowerSchool continues its transition toward more cloud-connected infrastructure.
Work Location and Global Support
This position is onsite in Plano, Texas, where you will support local network infrastructure and employees directly.
As part of a globally distributed team, you will also provide backup network coverage when regional teammates are unavailable and participate in scheduled after-hours maintenance and the team's defined on-call rotation.
Why PowerSchool
Technology at PowerSchool supports something bigger than technology itself. The systems we build and maintain help enable an organization focused on improving education for students, educators, families, and communities.
For a Network Support Engineer, this is an opportunity to combine hands-on enterprise networking, meaningful production ownership, global collaboration, executive-level support, and growing cloud experience in an environment where your work has a direct impact every day.
If you enjoy figuring out what is really happening, taking ownership until the problem is solved, and earning people's trust along the way, we would like to meet you. Compensation & Benefits:
