Job Description:

The Network Infrastructure Engineer, under administrative direction, supports the design, implementation, and management of Structured Cabling Systems (SCS) to facilitate telecommunications, audiovisual, security, LAN, WAN, intranets, extranets, VoIP, and other low-voltage technology infrastructure requirements within University facilities. Ensures compliance with University, state, and local regulations while working closely with vendors, contractors, and end users. Assists in developing budgets and implementing policies and procedures related to SCS infrastructure architecture and standards.

Position Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 per year; depending on experience

Essential Duties:

  • Assists in the design, installation, implementation, and maintenance of SCS infrastructure to meet University requirements.

  • Supports multiple projects of varying size and complexity, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and compliance standards.

  • Coordinates with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure SCS designs align with project needs and regulatory requirements.

  • Reviews construction progress related to SCS installation and provides recommendations for compliance and efficiency.

  • Assesses requests from end-users and facilities representatives for SCS services, determining feasibility, costs, and equipment requirements.

  • Participates in the development of procedures for installing, using, and troubleshooting telecommunications infrastructure.

  • Provides technical expertise on network infrastructure technologies and assists in designing networking solutions.

  • Develops cost estimates and value engineering recommendations for SCS capital projects.

  • Assists in long-term facility planning to forecast telecommunication infrastructure needs, budgeting, and scheduling.

  • Communicates with vendors to gather product information, resolve system maintenance issues, and ensure compatibility with University infrastructure.

  • Performs additional technical and administrative duties as assigned.

  • Leverage AI in routine tasks and contribute ideas for using AI to improve the unit's efficiency and overall performance.

  • Take responsibility for fostering a positive culture, upholding organizational values, and championing engagement in all its forms.

  • Collaborate across teams and actively participate in ET/ASU events and programs.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Industry certifications such as BICSI RCDD, BICSI OSP, BICSI RTPM, BICSI DCDC, PMI PMP, or equivalent preferred.

  • Experience working in a higher education or large enterprise environment.

  • Strong understanding of voice, data, video, microwave, wireless, and laser technology and equipment.

  • Experience with Structured Cabling Systems (SCS) design, costing, and scheduling, including CommScope SYSTIMAX solutions.

  • Proficiency in interpreting SCS requirements in relation to structural, electrical, HVAC, and special systems.

  • Knowledge of industry standards such as NEC, BICSI, IEEE, ANSI, and EIA/TIA.

  • Knowledge of construction Division 27, 26, and 25.

  • Ability to develop, evaluate, and implement RFPs, RFQs, and resultant contracts.

  • Familiarity with budgeting, cost estimation, and reviewing construction budgets.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for troubleshooting infrastructure-related issues.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical requirements for non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines efficiently.

  • Demonstrated ability to model empathy, compassion, and emotional intelligence.

Working Environment:

  • Regular site walks in active buildings and construction sites are required. Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills are essential.
