Description  | Reporting to the Department Chair, the Nursing Program Coordinator is a dynamic combination of administrative, operational support, and project management that will help to support the teaching and research mission of the department. The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercise strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail. The ideal candidate should be comfortable interacting with individuals at various levels within an institution, as well as the public, whenever necessary. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.

The Nursing Department at Hofstra University is a part of the Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies. It comprises both undergraduate and graduate clinical programs currently serving over 500 students with projections of continued expansion in student enrollment.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Works closely with the Nursing Department Chair to improve the administration of necessary departmental functions for the graduate and undergraduate student populations. Provides administrative support to the Nursing Department Chair and Assistant Chairs. Responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Nursing Department’s academic administrative matters. Serves as a liaison between students, Nursing department faculty, advisors/committees and external program members. Serves as point person and information source for all University and departmental policies and procedures relevant to the program. In conjunction with members of the administrative team, works to coordinate the department registration procedures. Provides resolution to course conflicts, enters master scheduling of courses on-line, monitors add/drop and section changes, places reserves and wait-lists as appropriate, and performs prerequisite screening. Works closely with appropriate parties in relation to those students entering the sequential nature of the Nursing program at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Participates with members of the administrative team in the planning and coordination of the departmental classes for graduate and undergraduate populations (all semesters) and tentative year in-advance scheduling. Assists Nursing department faculty with the management of course syllabi, and course descriptions. Maintains up-to-date listings of faculty office hours each semester and assists with faculty book orders. Keeps accurate and complete program and student records with adherence to FERPA regulations, from admissions through graduation. Provides reports, and statistics, as needed, in support of Nursing Department data analysis per accreditation guidelines and needs. Assists the Data Analyst team in the collection and compilation of program assessment information. Ensures all departmental and school webpages are updated accordingly. Assists the Senior Assistant Dean for Operations and Strategy, or their designee, with administrative tasks related to the Nursing Department experiential learning and extracurricular programs. Provides professional staff support for the Nursing Department and the Office of the Dean for the Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies to ensure seamless delivery of services to students, faculty, and other department guests. Provides back-up support for additional areas of program or the main office. Performs other related duties or projects as assigned.
Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree required. 1-3 years of related administrative experience in an educational, healthcare, or similarly related setting. Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills. Commitment to fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning. Experienced in utilizing internet resources, with advanced computer literacy and experience in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Preferred Qualifications  | Master’s degree in education, or a similar field preferred. One or more years of experience providing administrative support to an office. Preferably within an educational or healthcare setting. Previous experience within higher education administration. Project management or event planning experience. Knowledge of student learning management systems such as Canvas.
