General Information:

The Office of Annual Giving (OAG) is seeking outstanding students to join our office team. Our mission is to connect donors, parents, students, and alumni with the university they love! As a Student Engagement Specialist, you'll utilize a variety of communication channels, including phone, text, email, video, and print, to engage with our community and support university initiatives.

Student Engagement Specialists must be good listeners, team-oriented, have great phone voice clarity, and be comfortable speaking on the phone. They must be passionate about JMU and eager to make a positive impact. Student Engagement Specialists, in collaboration with Annual Giving staff, will support and engage with student organizations on projects to promote values and goals that align with current students at JMU.

Student Engagement Specialists are expected to work 2-3 shifts per week, 9 hours total. Work will be at the Leeolou Alumni Center. Students may need to move around campus as needed. The position starts when regular classes begin in August 2026, with the possibility of working through the calendar year.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Connect with JMU’s alumni, parents, donors, and students through phone calls, texts, emails, and direct mailings.
• Participate and collaborate on crowdfunding campaigns such as JMU Giving Day, Senior Class Campaigns, JMU calendar, and others.
• Engage and participate in outreach across campus to strengthen JMU’s culture of philanthropy within student organizations and classes.
• Maintain confidentiality of donor records & enter data with accuracy.
• Attend trainings, planning sessions, and meetings (included in weekly hours).
• Perform additional duties assigned by the Office of Annual Giving (OAG) in conjunction with their Annual Solicitation & Stewardship calendar.

 

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled as a JMU student.
• Comfortable using a script to call donors, alumni, and parents of JMU.
• Able to attend trainings throughout the semester.
• Familiar with James Madison University and/or strong willingness to learn about the institution.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Works well as a team member.

Conditions of Employment:  

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
