ODOC Learning Fellow & STEM+ Specialist Full Description

Overview: 
Working under the supervision of the Assistant Director of the Undergraduate Program, the ODOC Learning Fellow and STEM+ Specialist (LF) delivers services in the domain of STEM learning support by providing tutoring and related services and undertaking additional duties that contribute to the Center’s support of Princeton undergraduates. The incumbent will fill at least five three-and-a-half hour tutoring shifts (which take place in the evenings and on weekends) and provide regular individual tutoring each week when classes are in session. Additionally, the LF serves as a liaison with academic departments, contributes to the training of tutors and other peer educators, assists with program evaluation, and develops materials for the Center. This is a one-year position with the possibility of renewal.
Responsibilities: 
  • Direct provision of course-specific, high quality, regular tutoring in group and individual formats
  • Under supervision and with substantial training, support, develop, and facilitate peer educator training sessions, including summer and winter STEM+ Learning Academy intensives
  • Liaise with academic (and other campus) departments and units on behalf of McGraw Center peer tutors – share relevant course information with peer tutors, may act as ambassador to course/precepts or attend instructional team meetings
  • Participate in program evaluation, including data collection and analysis – work with McGraw Center staff to design/re-design program evaluations, ensure student voices are heard, collaboratively develop strategies to feed evaluation data back into programs
  • Related duties as assigned
Qualifications: 
Essential
  • Demonstrated competence in STEM+ undergraduate coursework
  • Competence and/or potential to develop competence in group facilitation and tutoring
  • Highly proficient communication and organizational skills
  • High standards of professionalism, including tact and discretion
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including multiple evenings (7:00-10:30 pm) each week and on Sundays when courses are in session
 
Preferred
  • Training and experience in a learning support role (e.g. tutor, coach/consultant, advisor)
  • Knowledge of learning theory, strategies, and techniques
  • Familiarity with quantitative or qualitative assessment
  • Knowledge of Princeton University teaching practices and academic culture
