Job Description
The Onboarding & Engagement Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring that new students at Ohio Digital Learning School (ODLS) have a strong and successful start. This position focuses on the first two weeks of each student’s onboarding journey, providing proactive support, guidance, and engagement to help students and families acclimate to the school’s online learning environment. After the initial onboarding period, the specialist supports year-round student engagement initiatives and assists with re-registration campaigns to promote retention and ongoing connection with the school community.

Key Responsibilities:
New Student Onboarding (First Two Weeks)
  • Welcome newly enrolled students and families with personalized communication, ensuring they understand school expectations, schedules, and resources.
  • Guide students through orientation requirements, including platform navigation (Canvas, Engagli), attendance procedures, and accessing course materials.
  • Track and monitor new student progress during the first two weeks, intervening promptly if engagement or login requirements are not met.
  • Provide technical support guidance for account access, login troubleshooting, and required assessments.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and operations staff to address student or family concerns quickly.
Student Engagement & Retention
  • Plan and facilitate virtual events, challenges, and activities that foster community and student participation throughout the year.
  • Identify students who may be at risk of disengagement and implement outreach strategies to re-connect them to school activities and resources.
  • Maintain accurate records of student participation in engagement activities and provide reports as needed.
Re-Registration Support
  • Assist with annual re-registration campaigns by contacting families, answering questions, and providing guidance on the process.
  • Track re-registration data and follow up with families who have not yet confirmed their intent to return.
  • Work closely with the enrollment and operations teams to ensure accurate student status updates.
Required Skills & Competencies
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport with families and students.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills; able to manage multiple onboarding cases simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in virtual learning platforms, student information systems, and common communication tools.
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to address challenges quickly and professionally.
  • Customer service mindset with a focus on creating a positive student experience.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in student services, customer service, or education preferred.
  • Familiarity with online learning environments strongly preferred.

Work Environment
This position is primarily remote but may require occasional in-person meetings, events, or training sessions. Evening or weekend work may be required during peak onboarding or re-registration periods.
