Job Description
Paul D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. Campuses are located in Franklin and Suffolk. There also is a center in Smithfield. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates In transfer and career/technical programs; credit and non-credit workforce services and training for businesses and industries; special interest classes for the community; and summer classes for youth through the Regional Workforce Development Center. A dual enrollment program for high school students, online courses, and developmental studies classes is available at the college as well.
The One Door Navigator (ODN) will provide service and support to three service areas at Camp: Admissions, Workforce programs and Nursing and Allied Health Programs. This role will consist of student advising and enrollment/retention efforts and opportunities for student engagement in all of these areas. The ODN will attend community and college events to support the mission of the college, by increasing enrollment efforts. This individual will also create information packets and fliers to distribute throughout the service area and at college events. The ODN will provide advising for all the healthcare and workforce programs, will host information sessions to prospective and current students, and will provide pathways for the students’ continued education. The ODN will also enhance students’ college success by promoting and connecting students to comprehensive student support services at Camp.
Special Assignments | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications | Provide Students with an educational pathway to meet their career goals Provide academic and career advising to students Host/Create information sessions for healthcare programs Attend community and college events, while providing information packets and fliers for all these events. Knowledge of advising principles, policies, and practices especially as applied to higher education. Demonstrated knowledge and experience or training in developing and implementing retention strategies for student success. Knowledge of financial aid policies and procedures in order to assist students in the general knowledge and application processes. Skill in written communication, including development of letters, memos, presentaions and workshop materials. Skill in oral communication including large and small group presentaions and facilitating workshops. Reasearch skills necessary to find information on careers, job opportunities, and transfer institutions. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse population of adult students, faculty members, community/employer partners and staff members. Demonstrated computer proficiency including using Microsoft Office, Email, Student Information System and Internet. Ability to work in fast paced environment with a diverse student population.
Additional Considerations | Masters Degree in counseling or student personnel services Preferred. Prior experience working in an academic advising/community college setting. Prior experience in advising with students in a workforce centre.
