Job Summary   
The Office of Orientation & Transition supports new students and their families as they transition to the University of Utah through comprehensive programs and experiences offered throughout the year. Signature initiatives include Utah Bound Orientation, Swoop Camp Extended Orientation, Summer Send-Offs, Weeks of Welcome, and other transition programming designed to foster belonging, engagement, and student success. To support these efforts, the Office of Orientation & Transition is seeking an Assistant Director who will serve as a member of the leadership team and provide oversight, coordination, and strategic support for a variety of programs and initiatives that enhance the student experience. The Assistant Director will collaborate with campus partners, supervise student leaders and staff, and contribute to the planning and implementation of large-scale transition programs that support students’ successful entry into the University community.

This position reports to the Director of Orientation & Transition.

Responsibilities   
This position will be expected to work in office, 40 hours per week, and execute the following duties and responsibilities: Represent the Office of Orientation & Transition, Enrollment Management, the Division of Academic Affairs, and the University of Utah with professionalism, sound judgment, and a commitment to student success. Lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of large-scale transition programs including Utah Bound Orientation (Guest programs), Summer Send Offs, Weeks of Welcome, and related initiatives designed to welcome and prepare new students and their families. Supervise, recruit, hire, train, and evaluate student staff, including Orientation Leaders, Student Team Leaders, and graduate interns, while serving as a mentor and role model for student leaders. Assist in the development and delivery of comprehensive training programs for Orientation Leaders, including Orientation Leader Retreat and Orientation Leader Foundations Training. Support the successful implementation of Utah Bound Orientation sessions each semester, helping welcome over 8,000 new students and 4,000 family members to the University community. Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with campus partners to ensure effective program coordination and communication. Oversee program logistics including event planning, scheduling, staffing coordination, and operational support for largescale programs and events. Assist in the development and implementation of marketing and communication strategies, including presentations, handouts, website content, and program materials. Maintain accurate program records and assist with assessment and evaluation efforts to improve programs and inform future planning. Assist with program budget management, including tracking expenses and supporting financial documentation as needed. Respond to day-to-day inquiries from students, families, and campus partners through professional written and verbal communication. Maintain FERPA compliance and ensure integrity and confidentiality in handling student and program records. Demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently while collaborating with the Orientation & Transition team. Participate in divisional initiatives, cross-training opportunities, and professional development to support the mission of the Office of Orientation & Transition and Enrollment Management. Perform other duties as assigned to support office and divisional priorities. 

Minimum Qualifications  | EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
