PFW - Social Media Specialist Full Description

Join Purdue University Fort Wayne: 
We are currently seeking a full-time and onsite Social Media Specialist (41879) in the Marketing & Communications department. This position assists in the strategic direction, creation, assessment, planning, and implementation of social media activities to support Purdue University Fort Wayne’s (PFW) mission. The pay for this position is $49,000.00.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Conceive, create, write, and implement compelling, relevant content that inspires, motivates, and engages the university’s key audiences—students, alumni, prospective students and families, faculty, staff, and the general public.
  • Actively use social media to drive awareness and attendance for campus events and activities, as well as to promote and demonstrate the university’s community outreach and engagement
  • Develop strategies and tactics for improving student recruitment and retention through innovative use of social media platforms that support and advance the university’s marketing efforts
  • Plan and implement creative, integrated programs to grow fan/follower base and increase engagement across all social media platforms and channels
  • Monitor impact and reach of social media by planning, implementing, assessing, and refining metrics; analyze effectiveness of strategies and content to maximize efforts and results.
  • Help maintain social media calendar tied to key marketing initiatives to provide fresh and engaging content that is timely, relevant, and effective.
  • Help manage day-to-day updating, maintenance, and continuity of social media channels.
  • Monitor and manage issues and trends that may have implications for the university’s reputation; work collaboratively to address potential issues
  • Actively participate in emergency and crisis communications, including severe weather announcements, campus emergencies/crises, and media issues in collaboration with key university stakeholders
  • Collaborative with other departments and divisions to incorporate relevant social media content, techniques, and best practices from campus social media staff/accounts into departmental communications
  • Help manage, coach, and mentor team of student marketing assistants
  • Act as resource for campus community in utilization and best practices and ensure community managers are familiar with and use best practices.
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communication, or another related field
  • 2-3 years of experience in marketing, social media, content creation, or communications
  •  Excellent verbal/written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with a keen attention to detail and project management
  • Knowledgeable of social media trends, platforms, techniques, and best practices
  • Proven ability to successfully manage multiple, concurrent projects at a time
  • Experience in professional photography, videography, and content creation
  • Able to collaborate with marketing leadership, colleagues, and key stakeholders across the university
  • This position sometimes requires presence and commitment before 8 a.m., after 5 p.m., and on weekends, both on and off campus
  • Some local and regional travel may be required for meetings, events, and conferences
