Job Overview:
Lexia PowerUp, built on React and React Native, is an adaptive reading intervention application designed for adolescents reading below grade level. Our challenge is to create a learning experience that can meet the diverse needs of a wide range of students while maintaining high interest through motivational elements and content. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager to manage and work alongside a team of TypeScript engineers in the development of PowerUp. The ideal candidate has an interest in educational technology and has a proven ability to organize software engineering teams, leading by example.
Job Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of PowerUp and work closely with the team to manage all aspects of PowerUp engineering
- Be fully engaged and hands-on with design, coding, code reviews, and troubleshooting.
- Apply critical thinking to anticipate and manage risk while prioritizing engineering activity.
- Work closely with other product and SDK engineering teams to promote solution and technology sharing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional agile team members in ensuring successful delivery of objectives.
- Be an advocate for continuous improvement through execution on technical initiatives, including refactoring and reduction of technical debt.
- Lead in a diverse and inclusive environment.
- Nurture the team culture that encourages collaboration, personal and team responsibility, focus on user, content quality and innovation.
- Support hiring and mentoring of engineers and co-ops on the team. Provide career development support to developers.
Job Requirements:
- 10+ years of software development experience
- 4+ years of management experience preferred with 2 or more direct reports
- Enjoy writing efficient, readable, maintainable and testable TypeScript
- Experience with React and ReactNative
- Experience with Git
- Exceptional relationship-building, listening, and communication skills to problem-solve and drive consensus among multiple stakeholders
- Strong written skills to document proposals, engineering plan, timelines and task assignments
