Principal Product Designer Full Description

At Bezos Academy, we believe all children deserve the great start that excellent early education provides, including in under-resourced communities. Our mission is to nurture the potential in every child to become a creative leader, original thinker, and lifelong learner by inventing the solutions needed to scale early childhood education and motivated to pioneer the space where technology and preschool converge. We are a unique organization that operates a multi-state network of Montessori-inspired preschools in under-resourced communities while also investing in creating tools, products, technology, and other solutions designed to reach children well beyond the walls of our schools. We aspire for profound, large-scale impact on children ages zero to five.

As a Principal Product Designer, you will lead the design of end-to-end experience of new products that support young children, their teachers, and their families. You will lead design from concept to launch, crafting intuitive, responsive experiences grounded in empathy and deep user insight. Your work will nurture early learning and empower teachers and families, while sparking joy and expanding access to high-quality developmental support during the most important years of a child’s growth.

You will collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and curriculum experts to bring new ideas to life and influence the strategy behind them. LOCATION
  • Washington, Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, or Texas, within two hours’ drive to multiple Bezos Academy preschools (please see our website for-school locations); Seattle, WA preferred; or Greater Los Angeles Area
  • Relocation support is available for those willing to relocate to Seattle, WA
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, salaried position.
  • The full salary range for this position, across all United States geographies, is $157,000 - $298,000 per year. The upper portion of the salary range is typically reserved for existing employees who demonstrate strong performance over time. Starting salary will vary by location, qualifications, and prior experience; during the interview process, candidates will learn the starting salary range applicable for their location.
  • This role includes 15 paid days of vacation, 4 days of paid personal time off, 9 paid days of sick (care) time, 9 paid holidays, 5 paid days off for an organization-wide winter break, and additional time off if required by applicable law. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Ten or more years of relevant experience in digital product design
  • Product design portfolio showcasing measurable external customer and business impact
  • Track record of delivering user-centered product designs, from research and initial concept through final implementation, continual improvement and scale
  • Expertise in Figma or other design and prototyping tools, as well as UX and visual design standards, front end design systems and component libraries
  • Experience leading all phases of experience design, including user research, information architecture, persona and journey mapping, wireframing, prototypes, visual / UI design, style guides, usability, accessibility, and measurement
  • Experience collaborating closely with product, engineering, and other partners to solve customer needs while making critical trade-off decisions (e.g., competing customer goals, constraints)
  • Superior communication and analytical skills, including strong ability to clarify and solve ambiguous problems and think strategically to contribute to product strategy discussions
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Experience designing educational technology products for children, educators, and/or families
  • Background designing AI-powered products and applying AI within the design process
  • Experience building design systems to enable efficient development and scale
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and influence people and teams at all levels of the organization
  • Proven track record creating accessible, responsive designs that allow customers to seamlessly transition devices, activities, or modes
  • Ability to lead product discovery and research with a demographically and economically diverse audience
