Job Overview: 
We are looking for an experienced software engineer to join the Educator Engineering team to work on developing the myLexia application.  Candidates should have experience with PHP and be interested in working primarily on the backend to deliver new features and tools.  While this is an IC role the responsibilities go well beyond coding.  The person in this role will be expected to develop requirements, design backend systems, document key decisions, and work closely with other developers to implement solutions.  The ideal candidate will have some leadership experience and be interested in potentially leading a small team in the future.

Job Responsibilities: 
  • Reviews and develops requirements, generates designs, provides rough order of magnitude estimates and leads the implementation of new features.
  • Holds themselves to a high standard of quality and works with the broader team to ensure that the products meet those standards.
  • Works independently on multiple projects at one time, balancing needs, and deadlines.
  • Troubleshoots problems of a complex nature.
  • Mentors and coaches other engineers.
  • Supports systems that he/she has, and has not implemented.
  • Keeps informed of technical advances. Proposes changes based on newer technology.

Job Requirements: 
  • Ten or more years of software engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated track record of designing, developing and delivering modern web based applications backed by relational database systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.  Applicants will be asked to provide a technical writing sample.
  • Experience working with PHP and the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack.
  • Ability to work in a fully remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline.
  • Experience with frontend development, including but not limited to Typescript, Angular, and node.js.
  • Deep understanding of troubleshooting and optimizing complex SQL queries.
  • Leadership experience, especially as a team or project leader.
  • Experience managing tasks and deliverables for a complex software project.
