About the Role: Frontline Education is seeking a Principal .NET Software Engineer to help lead the evolution of its enterprise platform in a highly regulated, compliance-driven industry. This role is ideal for a senior technical leader with deep expertise in building scalable back-end systems with the Microsoft technology stack and AWS, with hands-on experience integrating AI-enabled workflows into real-world enterprise workstreams. As a Principal Engineer, you will operate at the intersection of architecture, product delivery, engineering excellence, and applied AI, designing resilient back-end services, guiding technical strategy, mentoring senior engineers, and helping establish practical patterns for safely incorporating AI capabilities into production systems.

Technical Leadership & Architecture:

Leads the design, development, and modernization of enterprise-grade back-end systems using C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core, Microsoft SQL Server, APIs, microservices, and event-driven architecture
Defines and influences architectural direction for critical capabilities, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, observable, and maintainable
Serves as a technical authority across engineering teams on tradeoffs related to performance, resiliency, data integrity, and compliance
Establishes reusable engineering patterns, reference architectures, and implementation standards

AI Workflow Integration:

Designs and implements back-end services that integrate AI capabilities into enterprise workstreams, including document processing, classification, anomaly detection, and decision support
Ensures AI-enabled features are implemented with appropriate controls, explainability, audit trails, and human review mechanisms
Collaborates with data science, platform, and vendor teams to integrate LLMs, AI services, vector search, and retrieval-augmented generation patterns into production software
Helps define engineering standards for responsible AI usage, including model interaction logging and monitoring for quality, latency, cost, and risk

Regulatory, Security & Compliance Alignment:

Builds systems that meet the expectations of regulated environments, with strong controls around data privacy, auditability, and traceability

Designs AI-enabled workflows with safeguards including data minimization, role-based access, and human approval gates

Engineering Excellence & Mentorship:

Sets a high bar for code quality, automated testing, reliability, observability, and CI/CD practices
Reviews complex designs and code changes, providing technical guidance to engineers at all levels
Mentors senior and staff-level engineers on architecture, technical decision-making, and system design
Acts as a trusted advisor to product and engineering leadership on incorporating AI capabilities into enterprise products

Required Qualifications:

10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant experience designing enterprise back-end systems
Deep expertise with C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core, RESTful APIs, background services, and asynchronous programming
Strong experience with enterprise architecture, including microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven patterns
Experience designing and operating production systems in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
Hands-on experience integrating AI, machine learning, or LLM-enabled capabilities into business workflows
Experience with data-intensive applications, including relational databases, SQL performance tuning, and data modeling
Experience working in or supporting regulated, compliance-driven industries such as financial services, healthcare, insurance, or legal technology

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with AWS Bedrock, OpenAI APIs, vector databases, embeddings, and retrieval-augmented generation
Experience designing human-in-the-loop workflows, approval flows, and audit trails for AI-assisted processes
Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, and Terraform
Experience with domain-driven design, clean architecture, CQRS, and event sourcing
