Wilson Language training is growing and is looking to hire a Product Design Director.
Job Summary:
The Product Design Director will be responsible for leading Wilson’s product design team and ensuring the highest quality outputs, across digital, print, and physical products, as well as platforms for multiple products and professional learning.
Essential Job Functions:
Design Teams Leadership
- Develop a high performing UI/UX and print design teams working on innovative solutions to Wilson’s high-quality products for educators and students.
- Mentor and develop design teams, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.
- Lead by example, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Provide constructive feedback and support to help team members grow and excel in their roles.
- Serve as the visionary for the product design teams, providing high level strategy, proven processes, and direction/leadership to meet the needs of the product development teams.
- Understand and display WLT’s Values.

Product Design Vision and Strategy
- Collaborate with cross functional stakeholders and leadership to provide key input into product definition, visual product design strategy and roadmap.
- Understand needs of educators, students and ensure their needs are elegantly met through products developed.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices to keep the team at the forefront of design innovation.
- Provide consistent visual system that is unified with product branding and user experience.
Product Design Operations and Efficiency
- Develop and implement efficient design workflows and processes to streamline product design output and quality for both print and digital teams. Utilize KPIs and quantitative data to measure and demonstrate improvements in creative operations and efficiency.
- Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope.
- Establish and lead proven and scalable processes for user research for the design teams.
- Establish, engage and manage work with vendors and contractors on specific projects.
- Provide strategy on implementing 3rd party tools-taking into consideration needs of the cross functional teams-i.e. Zeplin, Figma for digital deliveries.

- Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to mentor, motivate, and inspire a team of creative professionals.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively articulate creative concepts and strategies to stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to lead multiple complex projects, prioritize work strategically for the teams, facilitate agility for the teams in pivoting and reprioritizing strategically if needed.
- Proficiency in creative software and tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite-i.e. illustrator, InDesign, Sketch, Figma, Zeplin).
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to drive decision-making and demonstrate ROI.
Education or Certification:
- BA/BS in Visual Communications, Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or equivalent work experience.
Experience
- 7+ years of experience in a creative leadership role.
- 3+years of experience managing creative production using project management tools like Asana.
- Proven experience in ed tech and print product design in K-12 classroom products serving educators and students.
- Experience in managing design vendors and contractors.
- Demonstrated success scaling creative teams in a fast-paced, changing landscape.
- Strong portfolio showcasing work focused on print and digital products for educators and students across various mediums.
- Strong understanding of sales, product, and marketing alignment and collaboration.
Wilson has identified the anticipated pay range for this role based on the many factors that we consider in defining compensation levels for our roles, including market data, and internal equity considerations. Actual pay, and allocation between base and any target discretionary bonus, will vary based on geographic location, education, work experience, skills, market data, and internal equity considerations. Anticipated Salary Range: $174,000 to $215,000
