About the Role
As a Product Designer, you are an integral part of the product team, tackling complex problems through the practice of human-centered design. Designers work to deeply understand the needs of diverse user groups within higher education, embracing the challenges of product innovation as AI continues to reshape how products are built and experienced. We're looking for designers who provide frequent and clear communication, possess a self-driven work ethic, and thrive in a collaborative environment where teammates' critiques are essential to the iterative process.
Key Responsibilities
• Participate in research initiatives such as interviews, usability studies, and client collaboration sessions to build understanding of user needs and inform design decisions alongside product managers and senior designers
• Design solutions that balance user, product, and company goals across multiple levels of fidelity, including user flows, sketches, prototypes, and visual designs, leveraging AI tools to accelerate ideation and prototyping
• Create informed design iterations, validating work with data and real users
• Incorporate feedback from team-wide critiques and share constructive feedback for others
• Design accessible and responsive solutions that deliver inclusive experiences for all users, leveraging the Watermark Design System to ensure consistency across products
• Partner with product managers and engineers throughout the development process to champion the user experience and ensure what ships is cohesive and intentional
• Solve for edge cases and contribute meaningful improvements to existing product experiences

Required Skills and Experience
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in HCI, Human Factors, Design, or a related discipline, or 4+ years equivalent practical experience
• 2 to 4 years working in a product design, UX, interaction design, or closely related role
• Proficiency in exploratory research and usability studies; ability to synthesize behavioral information into actionable insights
• Strong conceptualization and visual communication skills; ability to translate abstract concepts into concrete design directions
• Solid grasp of visual design principles
• Proficiency in interaction design and information architecture; familiarity with AI-powered product features and a willingness to develop competency in designing for AI interaction
• Experience working within a design system, pattern library, or style guide
• Practical experience using AI tools in a design workflow, or demonstrated curiosity and initiative in learning to do so
• Familiarity with designing responsive web applications with a working understanding of accessibility standards and how to apply them
