Product Manager - Technical Full Description

At AoPS, we are world leaders in teaching advanced mathematics, building a comprehensive talent development system that trains the most elite mathematicians in the world—including all members of the US International Math Olympiad team. As we expand that same standard of excellence into new subjects and experiences, the systems that power everything need to evolve with us.

We're looking for a Product Manager to join our Core Services team. They own the foundational systems that underpin every AoPS experience. You'll partner closely with engineering to transform these systems from what works today into what unlocks tomorrow, ensuring they serve both technical and user needs.

What You'll Do:

Own the Vision: Define and drive the roadmap for Core Services, balancing technical debt, new capabilities, reliability improvements, and operational efficiency. Navigate competing priorities across reliability, features, security, performance, and cost—communicating your rationale clearly and bringing stakeholders along on the journey.

Champion Internal and External Users: Conduct research with engineering teams, customer support, marketing, operations, and end users to deeply understand their needs. Turn insights into prioritized improvements that reduce friction and unlock new capabilities.

Enable the Organization: Build shared services and patterns that eliminate duplication and accelerate development. Translate technical complexity into business impact, and business requirements into technical specifications—being the connective tissue between engineering and the rest of the organization.

Drive Technical Collaboration: Partner closely with engineering and architecture teams on system design, API contracts, data models, and integration patterns. Your technical acumen will shape how systems evolve.

Measure What Matters: Define success metrics for Core Services—from uptime and performance to developer satisfaction and time-to-integration. Use data to drive continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate has:

  • 3+ years in product management, with focus on foundational services, internal products, or technical systems
  • Strong technical acumen — you can dive into system architectures, APIs, and data models with engineering teams
  • Experience conducting user research and translating insights into product improvements
  • Comfort with data analysis and using metrics to inform decisions
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to align diverse stakeholders
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and make tough trade-offs
  • Growth mindset with curiosity to learn and collaborative approach to feedback

Bonus points for:

  • Background in B2B SaaS, EdTech, or consumer products
  • Understanding of data privacy regulations and security best practices
  • Technical background (engineering, CS degree, or similar)
  • Experience building developer tools or internal products

Why Join AoPS:

Join a collaborative, mission-aligned team that's passionate about transforming how students learn. You'll work alongside brilliant educators, engineers, and product leaders in a culture that values curiosity, innovation, and continuous learning.
