Job SummaryGateway Community & Technical College is seeking qualified applicants for Professional Tutors. Tutors support students in mastering course content through various formats, including homework assistance, test preparation, and skill-building. The goal is to help students develop effective learning strategies and academic confidence.

We're currently seeking in-person tutoring support in the following subject areas:Accounting/Business
English Language Learners (ELL)
Higher level mathatics college algebra, and higherChemistry and higher-level sciencesTutoring may occur in embedded class settings, walk-in sessions, or online formats. Tutors will work individually or in small groups and are expected to document their sessions. Additionally, tutors may be asked to design and lead success workshops related to their subject area.

Professional Tutors are also expected to pursue ongoing professional development, including continuing education and participation in trainings and meetings.

Work hours will vary, with a maximum of 10 hours per week.
This position will be 80% online, with 20% of work on campus - safe at work guidelines must be followed.
Tutors may be assigned to different campus or center locations.

Job Duties:Build and maintain relationships with key faculty members
Participate in at least 4 hours of professional development per semester
Uphold the Gateway Student Code of Conduct
Serve as a content liaison for tutors in your subject area
Communicate promptly with the coordinator and team
Maintain a positive and welcoming attitude toward all students
Be punctual, prepared, and engaged during tutoring sessions
Practice active listening and provide constructive feedback
Encourage student success and celebrate progress
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Use appropriate resources and refer students when necessary
Consult with the coordinator regarding student progress and concerns
Participate in training and required professional development
Reach out to students referred for tutoring
Accurately report hours worked and submit timesheets by the 15th and 30th of each month
Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s degree or equivalent (2+ years of full-time college coursework)
Demonstrated competency in the subject(s) to be tutored
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher from a previously obtained degree
Two recommendations from faculty or supervisors
Patience, kindness, dependability, and a genuine interest in helping others
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to clearly explain and reinforce course content
At least one semester or 5 months of prior tutoring experience
Understanding of relevant subject matter and Gateway student needs
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in a community college setting
