This position will require travel to multiple educational institutions in Salt Lake County.
Worksite will be at various PACE high schools in Salt Lake County (i.e., Cottonwood, East, Granger, Highland, Kearns, and West High Schools) and SLCC campuses.

The schedule is dependent upon site location and is between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. (Fridays from 10 a.m. to Noon are mandatory for PACE All-Staff Meetings.) Occasional weekend and evening hours are required. Part-time, approximately 20-30 hours a week, not to exceed 125 hours per month.

Job Summary  | SLCC Partnership for Accessing College Education (PACE) is a mentorship and scholarship program created to increase college participation and graduation rates for low-income and first-generation high school students in partnering schools in Salt Lake County. The program designates pre-college advisors to select high schools to support students with high school completion, college admission, and scholarship program requirements. PACE students who complete our high school requirements and enroll at SLCC will continue receiving dedicated advising and scholarships for up to six semesters.

The Program Associate II will be part of the PACE Programs team and work collaboratively to support a comprehensive student success strategy. This strategy includes pre-college advising and programming at six Granite and Salt Lake City School District high schools (i.e., Cottonwood, East, Granger, Highland, Kearns, and West), educational events and programming, campus tours, and graduation celebrations for PACE high school graduates. This is an in-person position that requires reliable transportation and traveling to our multiple service sites.

Under general supervision, the Program Associate II will provide support to the PACE Programs advisors and additional team members as necessary. The position’s primary responsibilities include the following: Assist in recruitment efforts for the PACE Scholarship Program. Participate in PACE event planning and execution. Co-facilitate or facilitate PACE events and workshops. Assist in the development of PACE student leadership programs. Create a welcoming environment for prospective and current PACE students and families.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties 
Under the limited supervision, the Program Associate II will: Commute to multiple educational sites, including but not limited to East, Cottonwood, Granger, Highland, Kearns, and West High Schools, and SLCC campuses. Mentor 9th to 12th grade high school PACE students through one-on-one interactions and group settings. Plan and facilitate educational events and workshops with the purpose of helping students increase their skill development in the following areas: growth-mindset, self-efficacy and sense of belonging. Support the transition of PACE students to SLCC. Support the development of PACE student leadership teams. Meet with supervisor and pre-college advisors on a recurring basis. Attend all other scheduled activities, events, staff meetings and meetings related to the program. Participate consistently in appropriate follow-up, documentation, and evaluation activities, including, but not limited to checking and responding to email, text, phone calls and other communication means.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued 
Outreach & Recruitment: Assist PACE Advisors with classroom and community presentations. Table at key recruitment events, including junior high and middle school and high school registrations, career days, parent-teacher conferences, local libraries, and community events. Assist PACE Advisors in the development of recruitment strategies. Assist prospective students with their PACE application. 

Mentorship: Provide mentorship to 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students. Work with students one-on-one to establish college, career, and personal goals. Proactively connect with PACE students through text message, email, phone calls, and in-person. Provide mentorship to students who may be experiencing difficulty adjusting to the culture and norms of high school or those facing barriers impacting their success, progress, and completion. Employ listening and advising practices to assist students in accessing high school, college, and community resources. Support students with college and scholarship applications, FAFSA, stress management, internships, time management, research opportunities, participation in high-impact practices, and other educational processes. Advocate on behalf of students experiencing hardship and find ways to connect them to opportunities and resources designed to enhance their academic experience. Review PACE Scholarship and high school graduation requirements with students.

Programming: Develop and facilitate student success programs for PACE students, including workshops (e.g., study and life skills, school-life balance, first-generation college student navigation and success, major and career exploration, among others) and campus tours. Learn about student interests to provide adequate incentives for program participation. Develop and facilitate community building, leadership and social activities.
Data & Reporting:Document student interactions in StudentAccess (PACE Programs student information system) (e.g., one-on-one meetings, program participation, email and text message communication).Other Duties as Assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities  | The PACE Program Associate II must: Be able to commute efficiently between multiple service sites (i.e., six PACE high schools and multiple SLCC campuses). Motivate, encourage, mentor, and teach students how to navigate and graduate high school, pursue higher education, and access the six-semester PACE Program scholarship to Salt Lake Community College. Demonstrate initiative, creativity, teamwork, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills. Employ excellent communication skills, including active listening and responding skills. Work collaboratively with other office staff, a variety of campus departments and community personnel. Gather, process, and organize large amounts of information accurately. Utilize basic computer operating systems and SLCC’s computer systems (MySuccess, DegreeWorks, Ring Central). Demonstrate professionalism. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
