Program Coordinator, Horizons Student Support Services Full Description

Job Summary
The Program Coordinator plays a critical role in advancing the mission of Horizons Student Support Services by coordinating the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of the program’s tutoring services. This position is responsible for contributing to the creation and management of academic support systems that promote student persistence, retention, and overall success. In addition to coordinating one-on-one and group tutoring, the Program Coordinator expands opportunities for student growth through exposure to undergraduate research and the facilitation of academic-based Accountability Groups. The Program Coordinator is also responsible for providing supplemental advising, case management, and connecting scholars, particularly those from low-income, first-generation backgrounds, to resources that remove barriers and foster academic and personal development. The ideal candidate will be organized, collaborative, and passionate about helping students persist and thrive in higher education, particularly in STEM fields.
 
Horizons was successful in the most recent TRIO Student Support Services grant competition, and funding has been renewed for the 2025-2030 grant cycle.
 
This position is 100% on-site. Some remote work may be possible based on program needs. Some evenings and weekends are required for program initiatives.

What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:                                                                                                  
  • Master’s degree in science education, technology, engineering, math, or related field
  • One (1) year of experience working with students in student services, advising or counseling
 
Skills:
  • Knowledge of academic advising best practices and of academic challenges faced by underrepresented students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate, and continuously improve peer-based academic support programs, with a focus on both 1:1 and group formats
  • Experience in hiring, onboarding, and developing students to ensure high-quality academic support, including performance evaluation and coaching
  • Proficient in collecting, analyzing, and using quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate program effectiveness and inform enhancements
  • Knowledge of effective tutor pedagogy and learning strategies
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work effectively and efficiently with limited supervision 
 
Nice to Have:
  • Experience in tutoring and/or supplemental instruction
  • Experience as a graduate assistant in a STEM field
