The Powerful Learning team ensures all learners have consistent and sustained experiences of powerful learning, thus empowering them to thrive in an increasingly complex and technological world. Our work involves engaging in research that contributes to the field of learning sciences; designing solutions that define, model, and provide examples of evidence-based insights that support the implementation of powerful learning; engaging strategic partners and communities to co-design and advance powerful learning solutions; and mentoring leaders within the education ecosystem. The Powerful Learning Project Director, Financial Planning and Analysis plays a critical role in driving strategic financial planning, resource optimization, and operational excellence across the Powerful Learning team. This role sits within the Strategy & Operations Department’s Financial Strategy & Contracts sub-team and is responsible for providing advanced financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic insight to inform decisions that enhance the impact of programs and initiatives.

This position also plays a key role in supporting financial aspects of contract management, including resource alignment, tracking deliverables, and evaluating vendor performance from a fiscal perspective. The ideal candidate brings sharp analytical skills, a systems-oriented mindset, and a proactive approach to improving financial practices across a mission-driven team.

Responsibilities

Strategic Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Develop multi-year financial models and scenario planning tools aligned to strategic goals and roadmaps.
  • Deliver insights and recommendations that shape strategic decisions, revenue generation, cost efficiencies, and sustainability strategies.
  • Serve as a thought partner to leaders across the Powerful Learning team, translating complex financial data into actionable strategy.

Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Contribute to the annual budget planning process in collaboration with department leads, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Oversee forecasting processes, monitoring progress against budget and adjusting plans based on evolving needs.
  • Create user-friendly budget tools and training resources to build financial capacity across teams.

Financial Reporting & Communication
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, with commentary on trends, performance, and key drivers.
  • Develop dashboards and visualizations that make financial data accessible to internal stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial insights clearly to non-financial audiences to support informed decision-making.

Contract & Vendor Financial Oversight
  • Partner with the Director of Financial Strategy & contracts and Project Director, Contracts and Finance Management to ensure contracts are financially sound, deliverables are aligned to budget, and timelines are tracked.
  • Monitor and analyze contract spending against budget; identify potential issues or cost overruns.
  • Support contract planning and evaluation by assessing the financial impact of vendor proposals and partnership models.
  • Maintain systems and trackers that provide transparency and accountability for contract-related financials.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Serve as a liaison between Finance and teams such as Strategy, PMO, Operations, and Evaluation to ensure financial data informs project management and decision-making.
  • Partner with the operations team to track all funding and ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements.

Process Improvement & Compliance
  • Recommend and implement improvements to financial processes, tools, and policies that enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, grant requirements, and procurement policies.
  • Support audit preparation and organizational reporting needs.

Culture
  • Contribute positively to the culture of the team, department, and organization

Project Management
  • Manage multiple competing priorities and rapidly adapt and respond to district and school requests and timeline changes
  • Possess excellent project management skills with an emphasis on attention to detail, timelines, and quality of work
  • Lead projects and the development of SOPs as needed
  • Engage in Digital Promise projects that promote and advance digital equity and contribute meaningfully to achieving the organization’s impact goals

Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Public Administration, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in financial analysis and planning, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial systems.
  • Experience managing contracts or overseeing a contract management function.
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional initiatives and building collaborative systems.
    Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with financial tools 
  • Understanding of public or philanthropic funding and compliance requirements.
  • Experience developing financial capacity-building resources.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
  • Knowledge of functions, features, limitations, and practical applications of the technologies available to support student learning experience and program management (i.e., Asana, Microsoft & Google suites, Salesforce, Qualtrics, etc.)

Working Conditions

Digital Promise Global is a hybrid organization. The position is primarily working in a remote environment. Employees are expected to travel at least 4 times a year for in-person meetings and the annual staff retreat. Additional travel may be required based on role and responsibilities.

Physical/Sensory Demands: Fast-paced working environment. Extensive computer usage and online engagement & communication. Must be willing to build inclusive relationships and collaborate with employees at all levels within the organization and external partners.

Special Provisions:
Occasional work outside normal business hours, such as weekends and evenings required. 

Compensation
We consider candidate experience and location when determining where a candidate may fall within that range. Digital Promise Global offers a competitive total rewards package including coverage of 85% of health insurance premiums for employee coverage and 75% of health insurance premiums for dependent and family coverage, 15 vacation days, 12 sick days, 3% 401k employer contribution, 3% employer 401k match, and a flexible work environment.

The full-time salary range for the position is based on geographical regions, with exact salary depending on relevant experience.

California: $125,197-$136,243
DC Metro Area & NYC: $113,815-$123,858
National: $102,434-$111,472
