The purpose of this role is to independently manage the editorial/production process for the derivative custom projects they are assigned, from the initial instructor outreach about the project to handing over final manuscript to manufacturing. They should be able to problem-solve most issues they encounter with their projects on their own, only escalating unique or serious issues as needed. The PE will also help enable the Sales team by providing project status updates as requested and looping in Sales reps on relevant correspondence with instructors. The main mission of this position is to work to meet the specific needs of instructors that are looking for solutions beyond the traditional textbook model.

Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Project management
  • Analyze and evaluate custom manuscripts to determine content needs (such as proofreading/copyediting and permissions requirements), and design requirements.
  • Sheepherding their portfolio of projects through the editorial process, acting as the primary problem-solver/decider on all product related issues.
  • They are responsible for maintaining the schedule integrity for each project.
  • They will need to take the lead in actively communicating with stakeholders in Production, Sales, and the Custom Team regarding the status of their projects, as well as any issues that arise.

Quality control
  • They will direct/instruct freelance copyeditors and proofreaders on the needs of each project. They are responsible for maintaining clear communication with the instructor regarding the proofreading/copyediting reviews of the instructor’s custom title, making sure that all editorial changes made to manuscript and proof are approved by the instructor.
  • The PE will check and approve all stages of proof, revisions, and final files for editorial accuracy and technical correctness to ensure quality standards are maintained.
  • Responsible to ensure that the finished book is reflective of what the instructor requested. They will also assist in the design of the cover, and review all stages of cover preparation from art/copy through final mechanical, and act as the final approver of the cover, assuring adherence to quality standards.

Team Collaboration
  • The PE owns the instructor relationship, and he or she is the primary decision maker on questions and issues related to each project in their portfolio.
  • Communicate frequently with instructors and sales reps, and accurately translate the author’s vision of the project to the production team and other members of the custom team.
  • The PE will also regularly update the instructor concerning the status of the project, and support the instructor through each phase of the editorial process (such as providing them with instructions for reviewing page proofs).

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum 3 year of experience with project editorial work; ability to manage multiple projects; Effective communicator, strong interpersonal skills; Strong customer service ethic.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of InDesign a plus.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Professional.
  • excellent skills in Microsoft Word

Salary Range: 51,000
Exemption Status:  Exempt

Physical Requirements:
Ability to multi-task; concentrate in noisy/busy environment; travel occasionally; work more than 40 hours a week as needed.
