Job Summary
UT Dallas is seeking a Project Manager I to be responsible for managing Information Technology related project(s), from concept through delivery. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the planning, execution and rollout of top priority IT initiatives. The candidate will report to the director of the Project Management Office to ensure compliance with project methodology and controls. This role will also be involved with maturing the project management methodology, policies, processes, tools and templates, and governance to contribute to successful delivery of projects within Shared Information Services at UTD.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience or high school diploma and 4 years of related experience along with PMP certification.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business or related field.
  • Minimum 6 years direct work experience in project management, including all aspects of process development and execution.
  • Experience working in higher-education preferred.
  • Experience working with ServiceNow SPM preferred.
  • Experience utilizing Project Management methodologies as defined in the Project Management Body of Knowledge and according to the Project Management Institute standards.
  • Strong analytical, planning, and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple project resources.
  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Must possess excellent verbal, written and presentation skills, and strong leadership abilities.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to lead and motivate project teams and meet specified deadlines. 
  • PMP certification required.
  • Proficient with project management software like MS Project, or others.
  • Proficient with MS Office including Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint and Visio.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Project Manager I demonstrates a full working knowledge of the project management lifecycle and familiarity with the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for technology projects. A working knowledge of IT infrastructure, enterprise systems, and systems integration is preferred. The role requires strong leadership, communication, relationship‑building, and analytical skills to proactively manage risks, resolve issues, and guide cross‑functional project teams to successful outcomes.
  • Set priorities and define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with IT leadership and stakeholders.
  • Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents using appropriate tools. Track project milestones and deliverables.
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Communicate with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
  • Drive projects from both a tactical and strategic perspective.  Coordinate with cross functional business units and internal departments to achieve project goals.
  • Draft and submit project budgets and recommend subsequent budget changes when necessary.
  • Track project financials throughout the life of all projects.
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.
  • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.
  • Communication at all levels as dictated by the project including ability to create/deliver presentations, if needed.
  • Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
  • Define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout the project life cycle.
  • Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project.
  • Conduct lessons learned sessions and create a recommendations report to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.

  • Hybrid remote work environment available. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement is required upon employment.
  • Must have the ability to be on Richardson campus within 48 hours of notice.
