Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.

This position will partner with the Payroll Coordinator on the following responsibilities:

Compiling and inputting all necessary data from source documents and updating employee records for processing biweekly, adjunct faculty, college work student and full-time payrolls. Reconciling payroll and fringe benefit reporting Preparing part-time wage reports and 1500 hour report Performing quarterly payroll reconciliation Ensuring compliance with federal and state payroll regulations and institutional policies Supporting internal/external audits and providing required documentation Maintaining compliance with Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and wage/hour laws Assisting with year-end processes Other duties as assigned.

Special Assignments  | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications  | Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee payroll and personnel records Knowledge of basic bookkeeping/accounting principles and practices, State and Federal tax laws as it relates to payroll. Ability to analyze discrepancies and interpret payroll data. Ability to perform detailed work with numerical data. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy Ability to meet strict payroll deadlines and manage competing priorities. Ability to grasp and utilize a highly technical and automated payroll system. Strong problem solving skills. Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills. Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Word and Excel. Ability to work with people and communicate effectively with others in giving and obtaining information. Ability to manage high-volume, deadline-driven work High school diploma required supplemented by basic bookkeeping/accounting courses and computer classes. An equivalent combination of training and experience may substitute.
