QA Engineer Full Description

About Wonderschool

Wonderschool helps expand access to high-quality early childhood education. We give childcare providers the software, tools, and support to build and run sustainable businesses, and help governments modernize their childcare programs. Our products support critical everyday workflows for providers, families, and government partners.

The Role

We're looking for a highly technical, detail-oriented QA Engineer to lead quality across our government products, billing product, and the products we sell to childcare providers. You'll build an AI-driven QA practice while staying deeply hands-on: investigating failures, writing automated tests, validating releases, and working directly with government customers. You'll bring the technical depth to understand complex systems and the attention to detail to catch problems before our customers do.

What You'll Do

  • Lead QA across Wonderschool. Own the testing strategy, prioritize the highest-risk workflows, and establish clear standards for release readiness across our products.
  • Use AI in your daily work. Apply AI tools to generate test cases, write and maintain automation, explore edge cases, and accelerate debugging. Validate the results and protect customer and government data.
  • Test AI-powered products. Build repeatable evaluations for accuracy, consistency, unsupported outputs, and unexpected behavior across real customer workflows.
  • Build strong technical coverage. Create and maintain UI and API tests, use SQL to verify data integrity, and integrate reliable regression and smoke tests into our development and release processes.
  • Protect billing accuracy. Test invoices, payments, refunds, calculations, and reconciliation, including failed transactions, retries, rounding, and duplicate charges.
  • Represent Wonderschool with government partners. Meet with stakeholders to understand requirements, lead user acceptance testing, explain issues clearly, and coordinate fixes and acceptance documentation.
  • Make requirements testable. Translate product requirements and government acceptance criteria into test plans, test cases, and documented results.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Product. Participate in Scrum planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives. Help teams identify risks early, prioritize defects, and verify that fixes address the underlying problem.
  • Improve quality over time. Track escaped defects, recurring issues, test reliability, and release risks, then turn those findings into better coverage and processes.

Who You Are

  • A hands-on QA or quality engineering professional who takes ownership from requirements through verified fixes.
  • Highly detail-oriented, curious, and persistent. You notice inconsistencies, investigate edge cases, and follow issues through to resolution.
  • Technically strong in test automation, API testing, SQL, debugging, and modern software development practices.
  • Comfortable using AI extensively and able to show how it improves the speed and depth of your work.
  • A clear communicator who can work effectively with engineers, product teams, and government stakeholders.
  • Experienced working in Agile teams and contributing to Scrum ceremonies.
  • Comfortable managing competing priorities across multiple products in a fast-moving environment.
  • Based in San Francisco or willing to relocate, with availability to work in our Rincon Hill office at Howard and Beale 5–6 days per week.

Experience with government systems, billing or payments, childcare software, and government-facing UAT is especially valuable.

What Success Looks Like

Our most important workflows have dependable test coverage. Government UAT is organized and supported by clear evidence. Billing issues are caught before customers are affected. Teams understand release risks, and AI helps us test faster and more thoroughly.
