IIDS and its RCDS team provide advanced computing, data, and software solutions that power research and innovation across the UofI. RCDS supports projects spanning AI, environmental science, HPC, and data management, helping stakeholders turn ideas into impactful results. The QA Analyst will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, security, and usability of applications and data systems developed within this collaborative environment. Working alongside developers, data scientists, and project managers, the QA Analyst will design and implement both manual and automated testing workflows, contribute to continuous integration pipelines, and help shape best practices in software quality across diverse projects.
Position Overview
The Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst ensures the reliability, functionality, usability and performance of University of Idaho software systems and applications. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and executing test processes to maintain high-quality standards across all projects. The QA Analyst collaborates with developers, project managers, and stakeholders to identify issues early and ensure delivery of secure, stable, and user-friendly systems.

Duties may include:
  • Develop and execute manual and automated test plans
  • Ensure software meets accessibility, usability, and compliance standards
  • Identify, document, and track software defects
  • Collaborate with developers and stakeholders to resolve issues
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and security standards
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement in testing practices

Position Qualifications
Required Experience
  • Two years of experience in:
    • Software testing and quality assurance processes
    • Writing and executing test plans and scripts
    • Using bug-tracking and test management tools
    • Developing and maintaining automated test suites
    • Working in collaborative development environments (e.g., Agile/Scrum)
    • Testing across multiple platforms, browsers, or operating systems
    • Proficient in team-based version control (GitHub/GitLab/Azure DevOps)
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; four additional years of experience (for a total of six years) may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree

Education:
  • Master’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field

Experience with:
  • Building and maintaining automated QA workflows in GitOps-based CI/CD environments (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
  • Designing and executing test plans for web-based applications
  • Writing end-to-end and integration tests using modern frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Playwright)
  • Conducting manual and automated QA of complex UI/UX workflows and providing structured feedback to developers
  • Creating reproducible test environments using Docker or containerized stacks
  • Collaborating in Git-based version control workflows (branching, pull requests, code reviews)
  • Working with issue tracking and project management systems (e.g. ClickUp, Jira)
  • Testing RESTful APIs and validating responses using Postman or equivalent tools
  • Reviewing accessibility and usability compliance (WCAG, Section 508) across multiple devices and browsers
  • Participating in peer reviews to ensure consistent QA documentation
  • Authoring or maintaining internal QA documentation, checklists, and wiki pages for repeatable testing
  • Using static analysis and code quality tools (e.g., ESLint, SonarQube)
  • Supporting secure software practices, including vulnerability scanning and dependency checks
  • Communicating QA findings clearly to developers, stakeholders, and non-technical users in a university environment

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
