Research Analyst Full Description

Join Purdue University Fort Wayne: (Modified)
We are currently seeking a full-time and onsite Research Analyst in the Institutional Research department. The Research Analyst will report directly to the Executive Director of Institutional Research and work closely with all members of the office. The wage for this position is $52,000.00 annually.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide support to decision making and planning across the university using data extract tools and business intelligence applications.
  • Respond to routine and ad hoc internal and external information requests.
  • Produce information for major projects such as departmental and statistical profiles, common data set, and mandatory external reporting requirements.
  • Work with various individuals, groups, and offices throughout the university to provide information such as characteristics of students, credit hours, graduates, and grades.
  • Respond to external surveys such as U.S. News.
  • Complete other tasks, duties, and projects as assigned.
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, MIS, or another analytically-oriented discipline.
  • 1 year of work experience in data, in any business context.
  • Excellent analytic, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, including ability to manage multiple tasks. 
  • Must have understanding of confidentiality requirements.
 
Required Technical Skills:
  • Data Extraction & Management: Proficiency in extracting data from various source systems (e.g., Enterprise Resource Planning systems like Banner) using tools and programming languages such as SQL or other query tools.
  • Statistical Analysis & Methodology: The ability to apply statistical methods to organize, analyze, and interpret data to identify trends and meaningful insights.
  • Spreadsheet applications: High-level skills in programs like Microsoft Excel (for data manipulation, analysis, and presentation).
  • Statistical software: Experience with packages like SPSS, SAS, or R for advanced analysis.
  • Data visualization/Business Intelligence (BI) tools: Experience with tools like Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, or similar to create dashboards and present data effectively.
  • Programming/Coding: Basic knowledge of programming languages relevant to data analysis (e.g., Python, R, SQL) is highly valuable.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with information systems used in higher education, such as Banner.
  • General understanding of business processes and organizational structures associated with a higher education institution.
  • Ability to work effectively with limited supervision and to represent the Office of Institutional Research with numerous constituencies.
