Job Description
This is a remote position.

Position Summary
Reporting to the VP of Research and Operations, the Research Associate will serve as the primary implementor of Ensemble Learning’s research agenda.  This position will support the research and evaluation strategy set by the VP of Research and Operations, Manage data collection, conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis, and author research briefs and articles. Ensemble learning is undertaking an ambitious research and evaluation plan and this position will be the primary manager of this plan.

Ensemble Learning is a nonprofit organization that helps schools and districts nationwide transform teaching and leadership to better serve multilingual learners. Since 2016, Ensemble has supported nearly 300 school systems and reached over 100,000 students through professional learning, coaching, and strategic planning. The organization will employ 15-20 staff in 2026, has doubled its footprint in recent years, and operates on a lean $3M annual budget as it builds infrastructure to scale in the coming years.

Requirements
Location: This role is Remote working across the 4 US time zones; Candidates are not limited in geography; however, priority will be given to candidates from Texas due to the concentration of our school partners in the state.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience ranging from $90,000–$100,000 + generous benefits.

Candidate Profile
Ideal Experience
  • 2+ years of experience in program evaluation

  • 2+ years of experience with qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods analyses 

  • Strong communication and writing skills

  • Master’s in educational psychology, statistics, or a related field (PhD preferred)

Critical Professional Capabilities

Program Evaluation
  • Design and administer data collection instruments including teacher and school leader surveys, pre/post assessments, observation protocols, and interview guides aligned to Ensemble Learning's research questions and theory of action
  • Coordinate with school partners to establish data collection timelines, access agreements, and protocols that minimize burden on teachers and administrators
  • Conduct fidelity monitoring to assess whether EL interventions are being implemented as designed, and document variation across sites
  • Lead focus groups and structured interviews with teachers, school leaders, and (where appropriate) students to generate qualitative data on implementation and outcomes
  • Manage longitudinal student outcome data across multiple school years, maintaining clean and analysis-ready datasets for each partner cohort
  • Analyze program data against theory of action benchmarks, including comparison to control or matched comparison groups where applicable
  • Prepare evaluation reports that synthesize quantitative and qualitative findings for internal leadership, school partners, and external funders
  • Ensure compliance with IRB requirements and maintain data governance protocols, including data-sharing agreements with partner districts and schools
Research Project Management
  • Maintain a master research calendar tracking all data collection windows, analysis milestones, and reporting deadlines across the full portfolio of evaluation work
  • Develop and update the annual research and evaluation plan in coordination with the VP of Research and Operations, ensuring alignment between research activities and organizational priorities
  • Manage relationships with external evaluators, university partners, data vendors, or research consultants
  • Track progress against deliverables and proactively flag risks to timelines or data quality before they affect reporting commitments to funders or partners
  • Coordinate dissemination of research findings through white papers, conference submissions, practitioner briefs, and other publications
  • Brief the VP of Research and Operations and leadership team regularly on research progress, emerging findings, and implications for program design
  • Support grant reporting by translating research findings into funder-required metrics and narrative evidence of impact
  • Work with the operations team to build research infrastructure — establishing or revising systems, templates, and workflows
