Research Data Management Specialist Full Description

Position Summary:
The Research Data Management Specialist plays a pivotal role in supporting NYU's institutional commitment to balancing open science/access with protecting research data assets through a risk assessment and mitigation approach in partnership with the research community. The specialist supports comprehensive data lifecycle management, data security, and compliance efforts. This position coordinates with various university units to ensure that research data is properly identified, categorized, classified, and well-managed while ensuring adherence to university policies and regulatory requirements. Integral to NYU’s Research Security Program, the specialist provides essential administrative support in reviewing data use agreements; developing, maintaining, and auditing research data management and security plans for both funded and unfunded research across NYU Washington Square and its Global Campuses; and offering outreach and training to enhance data security issues and awareness throughout the NYU research community.

Qualifications:
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree Information Systems, Data Management, Computer Science, Data Science, Library and Information Science, or a related field

Required Experience:
2+ years Experience as a research administrator or as a researcher, particularly with research data. Experience with research or data contracts, contract negotiation and/or a background in a regulatory or compliance environment.

Preferred Experience:
3+ years Experience supporting specialized research compliance systems, storage solutions, and data lifecycle management within an academic research environment.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Possess excellent judgment, and time management skills; be service oriented; be a flexible self-starter comfortable working in a complex, deadline driven environment. Excellent organizational, analytical, critical thinking, writing and communication skills. This position requires extensive computer knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs as well as familiarity with Adobe Acrobat.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Experience with data security, compliance, and regulatory requirements such as HIPAA, GDPR, and NIST 800-171/53.
Additional Information: In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $81,000.00 to USD $99,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
