Research Operations Administrator Full Description

Job Summary
The Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) Department at Purdue University is seeking a Research Operations Manager to build the capacity and productivity of the SLHS research portfolio.   The successful candidate will work closely with various stakeholders within SLHS, including the department head, associate head for research, tenure-track faculty, research staff, and trainees. They will work within a research and programming administrative capacity with many opportunities to creatively enhance the research process. The ideal individual will also work with departmental leadership and researchers to promote the research mission of SLHS and identify ways for enhancing efficiencies.
 
Responsibilities Include: 
  • Streamlining day-to-day interactions between SLHS Researchers and Purdue administrative offices including (but not limited to): Grant Pre-award/Post-award, IRB, Purchasing, IT, Business Office.
  • Developing and maintaining robust documentation and administering systems that support researcher operations such as (but not limited to): maintaining examples of recent grant and research ethics and safety applications, aligning labs in research best practices, maintaining research scheduling and recruitment systems.
  • Communicating to internal and external stakeholders about research successes in the department through various forms of media.
  • Coordinating logistics for various research activities, such as departmental seminars and research community-building activities.
  • Monitoring operating budgets and organizing financial records.
  • Independently performing non-routine functions, exercising discretion, such as coordinating events, conducting searches for information, or preparing administrative reports.
  • Maintaining a positive, inclusive, and supportive research culture.
 
What We’re Looking For:
Required:
Education and Experience: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Three years of relevant work experience.
 
Skills Needed:
  • Administrative experience for a program, department, center, or similar organization.
  • Knowledge of research administration and grants processes and procedures.
  • Robust organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Zeal for developing creative solutions that improve processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple stakeholders in the research process.
