Colorado State University is hiring a Retention Specialist for Student Support Services. The role involves providing academic support, coaching, mentoring, and advising for first-generation, low-income, and disabled students, managing student recruitment, and participating in university planning committees to promote student retention and graduation.
Highlights
Provide ongoing support and resource referral to approximately 120 students, focusing on academic success, career preparation, leadership development, and campus engagement.
Assess student needs and develop individualized plans; serve as an accountability partner to promote skill development and goal achievement.
Maintain detailed records via web-hosted applications and databases; conduct strategic outreach to students needing additional support.
Plan and manage events, including logistics, budget, and risk management; coordinate student travel opportunities.
Assist in new student recruitment through presentations, interviews, intake appointments, and outreach related to admissions and financial aid processes.
Collaborate with campus partners and contribute to retention initiatives with a focus on diverse student communities.
Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in education, social work, behavioral science or related field; one year of professional experience working with historically minoritized populations; and strong communication skills.
Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in student personnel or related field, experience with TRIO or similar programs, and experience advising historically minoritized students.
Reports to the Assistant Director of the Student Support Services Program within the Academic Advancement Center.
Position offers a salary range of $56,000-$57,000 annually and includes full employee benefits; this is a grant-funded appointment ending August 31, 2026, with potential renewal.
