Job Summary The Scholars Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementing programs related to the recruitment of rural, minority and/or disadvantaged students into health careers, providing support for health profession students, clinical training sites, and health providers within the Southeast Alabama AHEC 15-county service area.
Recruit and Prepare Students for Health Careers Create, implement, and evaluate Health Careers Preparation and Promotion activities (i.e. enrichment activities, academic and career prep workshops, camps, parent academics etc.) for young students. Work with school administrators, teachers, counselors, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) chapters and community partners to identify, support student matriculation into a health career, with special emphasis on engaging students from rural and disadvantaged backgrounds.
Train Health Profession Students and Residents Establish and maintain working relationships with faculty and staff of academic programs at private and state universities and community colleges, encouraging placement of health sciences students at clinics and other health provider sites located in rural and medically underserved areas. Locate and manage adequate housing for students doing rural clinical rotations. Identify, develop and maintain sufficient clinical training sites with quality preceptors for students electing to participate in rotations at rural and medically underserved locations.
Support Health Professionals and Clinical Sites Assist in developing and implementing accredited continuing education programs for health providers in rural and medically underserved communities. Provide recruitment and retention technical support and training to clinical sites in medically underserved communities.
Assist with Health and Community Development Serve as a community-based liaison between academic training and community-based outreach programs. Help plan and implement innovative, collaborative, interprofessional health education programs that meet community needs.
Special ProjectsParticipate in special projects implemented in partnership with academic institutions, healthcare organization or other charitable/nonprofit organizations with similar goals and objectives such as planning conferences, assisting with planning health and career fairs and other duties to be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications 1. Associate degree or higher in a health-related or educational field of study.
2. One year of related professional experience.
3. Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Publisher, Excel etc.) as well as web and email proficiency.
4. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision; must have superior organizational, oral, and written skills.
5. Must be able to travel throughout the 15-county service area.
Preferred Qualifications 1. Baccalaureate degree in a health-related or educational field of study
2. Two years of appropriate professional experience.
Will this position require driving (personal vehicle, university vehicle, utility vehicle, or golf cart) in order to perform the job duties? | Driving may be necessary but is not a primary responsibility
