About our Team
Med is a flagship medical journal published monthly by Cell Press, the global publisher of trusted and authoritative science journals. We are a small and friendly team priding ourselves on offering a personalized service to the authors who publish with us. 
This is a full-time editorial position based in one of our Elsevier offices in the US (primary location US Massachusetts), as well as in selected countries in Europe.

About the Role
The Scientific Editor will work collaboratively with the Editor-in-Chief and fellow editors in all aspects of the organization and preparation of the journal. In addition, this Scientific Editor will also work closely with Cell Genomics editorial team.

Responsibilities 
  • Assessing submitted research papers critically, and make editorial recommendations.
  • Providing outstanding author service and overseeing the peer review process.
  • Establishing relationships with scientists through outreach to medical communities and recruit exciting clinical research.
  • Commissioning and editing Review and Perspective articles, as well as other front matter content.
  • Commissioning and creating content for the journal homepage, blog and social media outlets.
  • Traveling to scientific conferences and visit academic institutes.
  • Strengthening and building the visibility and reputation of the journal.
  • Contributing to strategic planning and journal development with the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Building effective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press and beyond.
  • Organizing scientific conferences and contribute to Cell Press growth and innovation projects.
 
Requirements 
  • Have a higher degree (PhD) in a relevant discipline (eg, biomedical science, public health), or a medical degree (MD). Post-doc experience is highly valued but not an absolute requirement.
  • Have research experience in a relevant field or experience in the wider development community, with a track record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Display expertise and research experience in clinical genetics, human or cancer genomics or a related field.
  • Have editorial experience, with a good understanding of all aspects of the journal publishing process, would be an added advantage but not an absolute requirement.
  • Utilize critical thinking and the willingness to learn and absorb new areas of research.
  • Have a genuine commitment to equity in health and health care
  • Display talent for clear communication/exceptional communication skills.
  • Able to work successfully both independently and in a diverse global team.
  • Have a natural ability to engage, influence and build relationships with stakeholders, teams and our community.

U.S. National Base Pay Range: $70,200 - $117,100. Geographic differentials may apply in some locations to better reflect local market rates.

This job is eligible for an annual incentive bonus.
