About Paloma
The achievement gap has remained unchanged over the past half century, despite trillions invested in classroom intervention. Research shows that families—not schools—are the biggest determinant of student success. Parents’ love for their children is the single greatest—and most underutilized—natural resource in education.
Paloma is a venture-backed edtech startup that harnesses AI to unleash parents' untapped teaching potential. Our mobile web app helps marginalized families build and sustain a habit of tutoring their kids for 15 minutes a day. Imagine parents sitting with their kids and engaging in rigorous, curriculum-aligned, and joyful instruction daily. By the time students enter middle school, Paloma users will have given their kids the equivalent of an entire extra year of school!
In our partner networks—including Houston ISD, LAUSD, & Rocketship—75% of all families in participating grades are tutoring their kids using Paloma! 70% of participating families are tutoring their kids at least 3x per week, meeting the standard for high-dosage tutoring. As one district leader put it, “Paloma awakens the sleeping giant of parents as tutors.”
About the role
This is a seasonal, flexible contract role for an expert virtual and in-person facilitator with a background in early literacy to deliver high-energy, back-to-school professional development sessions that equip Pre-K through 2nd-grade educators to effectively utilize the Paloma platform.
We are looking for passionate educators to join our seasonal training team. As schools and districts launch the new academic year with Paloma, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring educators get off to a strong start. Your goal is to inspire and equip Pre-K through 2nd grade teachers, special educators, and school support staff to utilize our platform and turn parents into their child's greatest instructional resource.
You'll deliver high-impact learning experiences that reflect best practices in adult learning, helping educators build confidence, competence, and excitement about using Paloma from day one. This is a flexible, high-impact engagement where your work directly shapes how thousands of educators experience Paloma during the most important season of the school year.
If you have a deep empathy for the realities of the modern classroom, an expertise in early literacy, and an infectiously joyful approach to professional development, we want you on our team.
Key Responsibilities:
Workshop Facilitation & Delivery
- Deliver Back-to-School Training: Facilitate engaging, high-energy professional development sessions primarily in virtual environments (utilizing expert-level Google Meet skills), while retaining the ability to confidently deliver in-person sessions to large audiences of educators.
- Support High-Volume Onboarding: Help meet elevated demand during our peak back-to-school season (July-October) by leading multiple sessions per week across various districts.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with our School Success Team to ensure educators are deeply engaging with Paloma and having a seamless launch experience.
Instructional Design & Pedagogical Partnership
- Adapt Existing Content: Customize and refine existing Paloma training materials to adapt to new product updates and meet the specific pedagogical needs of different school and district contexts.
- Continuous Improvement: Collect and synthesize participant feedback to inform real-time improvements to training delivery and content.
- Empathetic Support: Model relationship-driven classroom strategies and create an inclusive training environment that respects the time, expertise, and mental load of our educators.
Who You Are: Alignment with Paloma’s Core Values
To be successful in this role, you must embody the values that drive our team every day:
- Aggressively Curious: You chase improvement relentlessly. You read the room (or the virtual grid) during a training, adapt your delivery on the fly, and eagerly seek feedback to make the next session even better.
- Infectiously Joyful: You bring a fundamentally joyful spirit to professional development. You know exactly how demanding teaching is, and you go out of your way to make your trainings energizing, emotionally resonant, and genuinely fun.
- Totally Excellent: You demonstrate individual excellence as a facilitator. You hold yourself to a high bar of preparedness, adult learning theory, and technological fluency, ensuring that every minute of a teacher's time is respected and utilized effectively.
- Fiercely Passionate: You believe deeply that parents are their children's first and most influential teachers. You choose this work because you are fiercely committed to empowering educators and families.
Qualifications/Candidate Profile:
- Experience: 5+ years of experience designing and delivering professional development for educators, with demonstrated success managing both in-person and virtual formats, and proven experience working directly with K-12 teachers, instructional coaches, and school leaders.
- Virtual Facilitation Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in virtual meeting platforms, specifically Google Meet and Zoom, with the ability to troubleshoot tech issues seamlessly while keeping an audience engaged.
- Communication: Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the charisma to manage and motivate large audiences.
- Tech Fluency: Comfort with educational technology and a genuine enthusiasm for technology's role in supporting and enhancing instruction.
- Startup Readiness: Ability to work independently and self-manage in a fast-paced, contract environment.
- Availability: Flexibility to take on a high volume of sessions (20-40 hours per week) during the July-October peak season. Must be able to start in July!!
