Secondary Instructional Specialist – Hunt MS Full Description

Reports To: Campus Principal Work Year Days: 189 Salary: Actual salary will be calculated based upon experience Primary Purpose: 
Strengthen educator effectiveness by building capacity through data analysis, response to data, and job-embedded professional learning in order to close the achievement gap via instructional support and guidance aligned to best practices to positively influence student achievement and overall growth.

Qualifications: 
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree 
Master’s Degree - preferred  
Valid Texas Secondary Teacher Certification at the appropriate level
 
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong knowledge of TEKS, curriculum, and instructional strategies
Effective collaborator
Knowledge of effective data analysis and response to data

Experience:
Three or more years of classroom experience preferred
Campus leadership experience preferred
Experience facilitating professional learning preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties: 
Work under the direction of Teaching and Learning and the campus principal by supporting, communicating, and modeling district priorities.
Collaborate regularly with campus and district leaders to monitor impact on student performance.  
Strengthen the quality of instructional foundations through job-embedded professional learning, data-talks, co-teaching, and learning walks. 
Lead and facilitate ongoing, job-embedded professional learning at the campus and district level.
Foster trusting relationships and a positive, collaborative culture within and across departments, including Content Leads, Digital Learning, Library Services, Special Education, and English as a Second Language (ESL).
Maintain high standards of ethics and confidentiality regarding student and staff information.
Partner with campus leadership and stakeholders to gather and review data to support teachers in responding to student needs for intervention, including providing Tier 1 intervention resources and scaffolds, planning for implementation of and modeling language-rich classroom structures.
Use a student tracking system that includes assessment information, course grades, teacher referrals, and attendance to monitor individual student progress and the intensity and schedule of interventions.
Partner with teachers to engage in analyzing data to assess current instructional practices, establish goals, identify and explain effective teaching strategies, and provide ongoing support until goals are achieved.
Support teachers through co-planning and co-teaching in order to build instructional skills and implement strategies from professional learning in classrooms through ongoing interaction, reflection, and continuous improvement.
Partner with teachers to gather and review data to respond to student needs and close learning gaps.
Analyze whole campus student data to determine appropriate tiered levels of support.
Contribute to the campus improvement goals and action plans based on classroom and district assessment data.
Collaborate with the campus leadership team to determine and plan teacher professional learning opportunities.
Provide training and support so that teachers consistently implement research-based best practices for delivering rigorous instruction in any content.

Working Conditions: 
Instructional Specialist is a full day role. The expectation is that the Instructional Specialist supports and grows collaborative teams several times a week; supports the campus professional learning plan; meets regularly with the campus principal and/or the Teaching and Learning team; works one-on-one with teachers in improving instruction; and regularly reviews learner and campus data and assesses performance. 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress.  Flexibility to meet the needs of staff members.  Duties are physically demanding, including moving between rooms and moving small stacks of textbooks.  Organizing, storing, and distribution of materials as well as moving media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
