Description
The Assistant Teacher supports the lead teacher in carrying out classroom responsibilities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provides a warm, nurturing classroom environment for children.
  • Provides a welcoming environment for parents and families.
  • Follows the procedure and schedule set forth by the staff in the classroom.
  • Assists in the execution of planned activities and overall classroom management.
  • Carries out the mission set forth by the Diane Lindner-Goldberg Child Care Institute and Hofstra University.
  • Fulfills the role of the classroom teacher in his/her absence.
  • Demonstrates understanding and respect for children, their developmental needs and interests, and their family and culture.
  • Displays commitment of continued professional development.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Prior experience working with young children in a child care setting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Education component/specialization preferred.
  • Pursuit of a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education a plus.
  • Experience working in a National Association for the Education of the Young Children (NAEYC) accredited childcare center a plus.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the NAEYC accreditation standards, NAEYC accreditation process, and Teaching Strategies Creative curriculum preferred.

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education.
