The Senior Communications Specialist will assist the Director of Multimedia with the day-to-day operations of the unit and serves as a key project manager responsible for ensuring the creative alignment of content, direction, and ensures consistent, high-quality deliverables and adherence to all critical deadlines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develops innovative, creative, and strategic digital and social media and marketing, news, public relations and corporate communications video solutions to support high-priority communications and marketing objectives for The University of Texas at Arlington while maintaining consistently high- quality standards on all productions. Conducts required research such as personal interviews and other back-grounding techniques to obtain necessary information to develop concepts. Conducts interviews with faculty, staff, students, and alumni and helps direct video and photo shoots. Creates storyboards and work plans, helps write and edit scripts, and seeks appropriate approval and input at key points prior to, and during, all phases of production. Schedules and scouts locations, maintains contacts and resources for talent selection, stays abreast of relevant University events for coverage and documentary opportunities, identifies and suggests opportunities for content and coverage. Utilizes all current technology, formats, and standards in videography, sound, photography, and video editing to deliver final products in accordance with project directives. Makes technical and creative decisions regarding such elements as appropriate lighting, shooting angles, lens selection, placement and type of microphones, locations, use of movement and interview style, and participates in projects’ visual and audio development. Works closely with all functional areas of the central Communications and Marketing office and campus marketers/communications officers to ensure integration of various design objectives and to develop creative, compelling visual solutions, and provide technical support for a wide variety of projects across multiple platforms (digital, online, live performance). Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in digital marketing, photography, television production, cinematography, multimedia production, journalism or related field. Five (5) years of experience in a professional media production environment or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience in similar role. Strong proficiency with current professional videography and photography equipment. Demonstrated proficiency in graphic, Web online, and video production software editing and production programs such as Final Cut Pro and the Adobe Creative Suite.
Preferred Qualifications Five (5) years of video editing experience. Two (2) years working in After Effects. Two (2) years working with MAC Operating System. Experience at a video production facility, advertising agency, corporate or institutional in-house organization, or higher education in-house creative team supported by a strong demo reel or portfolio is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficiency in graphic design programs and image editing programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator. Demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to collaborate and manage the interest of multiple stakeholders. Demonstrate clear and accurate written communication skills. A strong focus on attention to detail is essential. Ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to changing priorities, direction, and deadlines is essential. Ability to think creatively, solve problems, plan directions, overcome obstacles and successfully negotiate with individuals and groups is essential. Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
