TeachTown is the leading provider of education solutions for students diagnosed with autism, developmental and intellectual disabilities, emotional disorders, and speech/language impairments. We are seeking a motivated, deadline-driven individual to join us as a full-time Senior Curriculum Developer for Assessment. The individual will be strong in writing, time-management, communication, and attention to detail; committed to creating content that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible (DEIA); experienced in teaching and writing school-based content (academic, social, behavioral, adaptive, etc.) for students with disabilities; and prepared to work both independently and as part of a dynamic team.
 
All applicants will be required to submit a writing sample with their application.  Examples of writing samples should include an assessment, evaluation, or data analysis piece and can include: curriculum content and accompanying assessment(s), Master’s thesis, and classroom assessment materials that do not include identifiable student information of any type.
 
Role & Responsibilities
  • Develop classroom-based assessments (to be implemented by special education teachers) for students with moderate to severe disabilities, ages 18 months through 22 years. 
    • Targeted learning domains to assess may include, but are not limited to: ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Adaptive Skills, Communication Skills, Behavioral Skills, and Transition Skills. Assessments must address content area learning standards that will be specified in the curriculum scope and sequence OR normed developmental progressions. All assessment content must be adapted to meet the developmental needs of targeted student ability levels.
  • Train teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals and other district personnel on curriculum implementation and assessment administration to support evaluation efforts.
  • Analyze curriculum and assessment data to evaluate student outcomes and product efficacy.
  • Work with experts in the field to create, evaluate, and update assessments and data collection measures.
  • Create presentations to communicate curriculum and assessment implementation guidelines and assessment outcomes
  • Align assessment content to state and national standards and normed developmental progressions.
  • Create specifications for technology-based data collection, reporting, and analysis features and functionality at the student, classroom, and school level.
  • When given a short-term or long-term assessment project, develop an aggressive but achievable project plan with carefully task-analyzed steps toward project goal.
  • Work both independently on specific development tasks and collaboratively with the development team on broader assessment planning, decision-making, and execution.
  • Systematically communicate project progress to Editorial Directors and other Curriculum Team members.
  • Troubleshoot project progress challenges and implementing effective solutions.
  • Create technology-based assessments that provide instruction in specific content area learning standards using our proprietary lesson authoring software.
  • Select images for assessments. Images should be appropriate for the concepts and skills being taught as well as the age of the target population.
  • Review, proofread, and copy-edit curriculum content and supporting documentation, including but not limited to assessments, lesson plans, and professional development materials.
 
Required Education & Experience
  • Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of special education teaching experience with preschool, elementary, middle school, and/or high school students with disabilities, including academic content (i.e., ELA, Math, Science, and/or Social Studies) and/or a highly-specialized content area (i.e., speech language therapy, Transition skills). 
  • At least 2 years of experience training teachers and/or implementing school- or district-wide assessment and data collection/analysis initiatives to support student growth, including planning how to use assessment data to inform instruction.
  • At least 2 years of experience developing or evaluating assessment and data collection/analysis tools or programs.
 
Preferred Education & Experience
  • PhD or EdD preferred
 
Additional Notes:
  • US Work Authorization is required.
  • Travel required (up to 20% of total work time per quarter)
