The Senior Data Analyst plays a key role in advancing the University of South Carolina’s data-driven decision-making efforts within the Office of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Analytics (OIRAA). This position is responsible for designing, managing, and analyzing complex data systems to ensure accurate and efficient reporting for institutional accountability at both state and national levels, including IPEDS and SC CHE submissions. The Senior Data Analyst supports OIRAA’s mission to deliver reliable data and insights to senior leadership, the university community, and external stakeholders, contributing to informed planning, policy development, and strategic decision-making across the institution.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 4 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education- Master’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Technology or a related field.
  • Experience- 6 or more years of experience working with information systems management, data warehousing/querying, data analytics/visualization and/or research design is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency with data management computer applications, query tools, and relational databases, in order to extract data from existing systems, join large datasets, manipulate data (e.g., import data, transform and derive variables), and aggregate data using SQL, R, Python or other coding languages to create datasets that facilitate robust reporting and analysis.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of statistical software such as Tableau, Cognos/Argos, SQL, and/or SAS or equivalent, to produce tables and graphs, using syntax or command language to manage and transform data, produce tables and graphs.
  • Thorough knowledge of data visualization and dashboarding techniques and principles, and demonstrated proficiency using tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
  • Knowledge of higher education information systems such as Ellucian Banner and related data systems and repositories such as Salesforce, IPEDS, US News, and CSRDE.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility to work effectively with staff, faculty, students, and the general public.

Supports the whole process from data query/extraction/coding, report preparation, data validation to final submissions. Proactively works with other departments to fix data problems in the information systems and ensure quality, integrity, accuracy and timely submission of CHEMIS data. Appropriately archives CHEMIS data for reporting, analysis and benchmarking.
