Organization's Summary Statement:
University Relations is undergoing a major data modernization initiative driven by the implementation of Salesforce CRM and the migration from an on-premise SQL Server data warehouse to Azure and Microsoft Fabric. The current environment contains complex, layered SQL Server logic developed over many years, limited documentation, and fragmented integration patterns.
At the same time, technical capacity is constrained due to an impending DBA retirement and overlapping modernization efforts. Without additional senior-level data engineering capacity, there is increased operational risk related to data quality, system reliability, integration ownership, and long-term sustainability of the analytics platform.
This position provides senior, hands-on technical execution required to stabilize existing systems, migrate data and transformation logic to Azure and Microsoft Fabric, implement data governance practices, and ensure continuity during this transition.
The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for maintaining and modernizing the data platform, including designing and supporting cloud-based data pipelines, managing data lakes and lakehouse structures, supporting Power BI reporting, and implementing governance controls to ensure data quality, lineage, transparency, and trust across enterprise data assets.
The role works closely with the Director of Data Management, Salesforce implementation teams, and other technical team members within Business Intelligence, as well as business stakeholders, to ensure reliable integrations, governed data, and accurate analytics supporting advancement operations.
Preferences:
-Strong Preference for experience migrating data platforms or logic from on-prem environments to Azure and Microsoft Fabric.
-Strong preference for experience designing and maintaining data pipelines in Azure and/or Fabric
-Strong preference for experience developing and supporting Power BI reports and semantic models
-Experience integrating Salesforce or other enterprise CRM systems with analytics platforms
-Experience using data governance or cataloging tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview or equivalent)
-Experience supporting limited DBA responsibilities during platform transitions
-Deep understanding of relational database design, performance tuning, and query optimization
-Strong knowledge of Microsoft Fabric architecture, including lakehouses, pipelines, and data connectors
-Familiarity with Fabric data connectors, including connecting to external systems such as Salesforce
-Demonstrated ability to implement data governance practices within data engineering workflows
-Ability to analyze complex systems independently and deliver reliable, maintainable solutions
-Strong collaboration skills across technical and business teams

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five (5) years of professional experience supporting the operations, maintenance, and administration of information technology infrastructure.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Knowledge of multiple RDBMS platform such as Oracle, SQL Server, Amazon Redshift, etc.
Skill in ETL platforms or tools (ex.Informatica, AWS Glue, Talend, etc.)
Skill in writing SQL queries and building ETL processes
Skill in conducting user interviews, facilitating design walk through and guiding customers in developing business and technical requirements
Skill in the use of office productivity software such as Office 365 or Google Workspaces.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to lead presentations with small to medium sized groups.
Able to organize and provide direction to junior staff members.
A demonstrated commitment to customer service.
Provides leadership and helps bridge the gap between team manager and team members on technical topics.
Ability to effectively manage workload and delivery assignments on time.
