About you
Udemy is looking for a data scientist to join our new team focused on exploring novel applications of deep learning and foundational models (e.g., GPT-3, OPT-175B, BLOOM) to improve the teaching and learning experience. We are passionate about learning, making an impact, and building with quality. We love taking on new technical challenges. We are interested in building a diverse, collaborative, and fun environment. Come help us improve lives through learning!

About this Role
  • In this role, you will build products that leverage deep learning. You will work as part of a cross-functional agile team that includes data scientists, machine learning engineers, software engineers, designers, and product managers. Success in this role requires a combination of product intuition, data analysis skills, deep learning knowledge, and the coding chops to dive head first into development on production systems.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with PMs, designers, and engineers to scope and build data products.
  • Perform statistical analysis, feature engineering, model development, and offline evaluation for AI products.
  • Develop key metrics and monitor performance of the products.
  • Design and analyze experiments.
  • Develop production-grade applications and data pipelines to power AI products.
  • Proactively influence product prioritization through data-driven insights.
  • Provide technical mentorship for other team members.
  • Build Udemy’s technical brand through talks, blog posts, and publications.

Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience building complex data products
  • 3+ years of hands-on industry experience in a data science-oriented role
  • Strong knowledge of statistics, machine learning, and deep learning
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders
  • Proficiency with SQL and 1+ programming languages (e.g., Python or Scala)

Preferred, but not required
  • Familiarity with standard software engineering practices and distributed computing
  • Experience using big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)

We understand that not everyone will match each of the above qualifications. However, we also realize that everyone has unique experiences that can add value to our company. Even if you think your background might not perfectly align, we'd love to hear from you!
