Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position
The Senior Director of Advancement Communications, Marketing and Digital Strategy is responsible for articulating and promoting the vision, mission, and goals of the College and University Advancement to both internal and external stakeholders. This senior leadership role oversees the development and execution of comprehensive communications, marketing, and digital engagement strategies that enhance visibility, strengthen donor and alumni relations, and support fundraising priorities. The Senior Director serves as the lead content expert, ensuring consistent and strategic messaging across all platforms while collaborating with Advancement and campus leadership. This position requires a high level of professionalism, creativity, and confidentiality to support and advance the institution’s philanthropic goals and overall success.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Division of University Advancement is one of seven administrative divisions at North Carolina A&T State University. Our mission is to support the university through the enhancement and management of private resources by expanding opportunities for engagement, increasing the division’s resources, strengthening the university’s brand, and improving communications.

Minimum Requirements
  • Degree in Advertising, Marketing, Communication Science or equivalent.
  • Firm grasp of emerging digital tools.
  • Five+ years of related and progressively more responsibility or expansive work experience public relations, marketing or related field.
  • Superior news judgment and persuasive communication skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, intellectual curiosity and highly developed interpersonal interaction skills.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills; and skills in editing, copyediting, proofreading and incorporating feedback from different perspectives.
  • Strong negotiating and marketing skills and leadership ability required.
  • Competencies in desktop publishing skills and graphic production and design (Experience with Adobe Creative Suite programs including Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign).
  • Ability to use good judgment and ethics in handling confidential materials with sensitivity and discretion.
  • Collaborative team-oriented style. Ability to work with a variety of personality types.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with gathering and editing video.
  • Experience in a higher education environment, having participated in a comprehensive campaign.
  • Experience with fundraising and financial software.
  • Experience with marketing automation tools.
