Mundo Verde was founded in 2011 as Washington, DC’s first “green” public charter school. Today, Mundo Verde serves over 1,200 students across two campuses. With the hiring of a new Executive Team, the launch of a new strategic plan,  the completion of construction at the Calle Ocho Campus, and its fifteen-year anniversary in 2026, Mundo Verde is at an inflection point in its development as an organization. Position Overview:  The Senior Director of Student Success leads and is responsible for the direction, coordination and implementation of Mundo Verde’s policies, procedures, and systems related to serving students with diverse learning needs. This senior leadership role focuses on increasing equity, academic achievement, and support for multilingual students and students with disabilities. This role oversees specialized academic programming, related services, and compliance to reduce the opportunity gap for students with diverse learning needs. 
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership
    • Drives the vision for students with disabilities and multilingual learners across Mundo Verde Bilingual PCS, including data-informed planning and continuous improvement of services. 
    • Collaborates closely with CAO, Sr. Dir of Data & Academics, and Principals to envision strategy and work plans related to specialized instruction and leadership in accordance with Mundo Verde’s strategic plan. 
    • Collaborates closely with CAO and CFOO to inform decisions related to the special education budget, including staffing and services. 
    • Serves as a key member of the hiring team for campus-level special education leadership positions and supervisor of cross-campus providers in collaboration with school leadership team
  • Programmatic Oversight
    • Develops and ensures guidelines are implemented regarding specialized instruction, related services, school leadership development, and dispute resolution as it relates to special education, Section 504, and multilingual learners. 
    • Creates policies, procedures, and aligned professional development for campus-level leaders (e.g. criteria for services and service hours; continuum of services for LEAl quality plan development for IEPs, 504s, and MLs; quality specialized instruction; evidence-based and aligned interventions; Medicaid reimbursement; and special education staff evaluations). 
    • Manages contracts with special education service providers, contracted teachers, and programs and collaborates with school-based leadership teams to ensure effectiveness. 
    • Oversees implementation of the Home and Hospital Instruction Program as needed. 
    • Responsible for preparing for and executing Extended School Year (ESY) in collaboration with APs of Student Success, including student identification, hiring, instructional programming, and training.
  • Instructional Excellence
    • Ensures the implementation of evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions to support multilingual students and students with disabilities. 
    • Works collaboratively with CAO, Senior Director of Data & Academics, and Campus Principals to identify evidence-based interventions that are aligned to core curriculum and standards. 
    • In collaboration with other leaders, develop a network-wide system of professional development for leaders and educators with a focus on meeting the needs of all students.
  • Compliance and Equity
    • Ensures Mundo Verde Bilingual PCS meets federal and local mandates (e.g. Child Count, OSSE corrective actions) while fostering inclusive environments by working with cross-campus providers and each school’s Assistant Principal of Student Success
    • Remain up to date on charter-sector, state and federal policies related to special education, early intervention processes, and multilingual students.
    • Represents Mundo Verde in conflict resolution and legal proceedings related to students with disabilities
  • Stakeholder Engagement 
    • Collaborates with families, community partners, network and campus-based leadership to improve outcomes for all students.
    • Demonstrates cultural competence and exceptional organization and communication skills in a diverse environment.
  • Support School Events
    • Expected to attend (when relevant) and support pre-planned evening events throughout the year such as Expo, family visits, celebrations of art and learning, etc. as needed
    • Expected to attend at least one family event a year such as orientation, prospective parent info sessions, family potlucks, etc.

Terms of Employment:  
  • Schedule: Full-time, 8 hour workday
  • Location: Network-based role serving position meaning will serve at both campuses.
  • Position Type: This is a full-time, 12-month exempt salaried position, which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act
  • Pre‑Employment Requirements: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a TB test, fingerprinting, and a background check

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Qualifications
    • Candidates must have a master’s degree (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience) in Educational Administration, Special Education Leadership or related field.
    • Prior experience in campus- or sector-level special education leadership roles required.
    • Previous supervisory experience is beneficial.
    • Advanced, native or intermediate proficiency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
    • Teaching experience with special student populations and valid teaching or other educational certification preferred.
