About the role:
The Senior Director of UX Operations & Accessibility will lead the strategy, governance, and operational excellence of UX across Elsevier's global product ecosystem. This role is responsible for scaling UX operations, advancing enterprise accessibility maturity, and ensuring inclusive, research informed user experiences across platforms used by researchers, clinicians, librarians, educators, and students worldwide.

Operating at the intersection of design, product, engineering, compliance, and business strategy, this leader ensures UX practices are efficient, measurable, inclusive, and aligned with Elsevier's mission to advance knowledge and improve outcomes.

Responsibilities:
  • Define and implement a global UX Operations strategy across business units and product lines
  • Establish standardised UX processes for research intake, design workflows, tooling, and governance
  • Drive adoption and governance of enterprise design systems and cross platform consistency
  • Lead UX resource planning, vendor management, and budget oversight
  • Develop UX metrics, dashboards, and KPIs aligned to product and business outcomes
  • Champion UX operational maturity across distributed, global UX teams
  • Own the enterprise accessibility strategy aligned with global standards (WCAG, ADA, EN 301 549)
  • Lead accessibility audits, remediation initiatives, and ongoing compliance monitoring
  • Build scalable UX research operations including participant management, tools, and insights repositories
  • Act as an executive advocate for user centered, inclusive, and ethical design across the organization

Requirements:
  • 12+ years' experience in UX, Design Operations, or Digital Experience leadership
  • 5+ years' experience leading global, multidisciplinary UX teams
  • Proven experience building and scaling UX Operations functions
  • Deep expertise in accessibility standards and regulatory requirements
  • Experience working within enterprise SaaS, digital publishing, health tech, or data driven environments
  • Strong understanding of design systems and scalable UX governance models
  • Demonstrated ability to align UX metrics with business and product impact
  • Executive level communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of UX research methodologies and experimentation frameworks
  • Experience driving organizational change in complex, matrixed global organizations

U.S. National Base Pay Range: $118,300 - $219,800. Geographic differentials may apply in some locations to better reflect local market rates.
