Senior Director, SCAD Art Sales Full Description

As a senior director of SCAD Art Sales, you will develop and execute comprehensive sales strategies to meet and exceed quarterly targets, annual revenue goals, and public relations objectives. You will also identify and build relationships with high-end clients, collectors, institutions, and corporations. Among other duties, you will oversee the organization of sales events such as pop-ups, the Atlanta Art Fair, and other revenue-generating activations. You will tailor outreach efforts in specific market sectors to attract new business opportunities. Additionally, you will use data and industry insights to inform forecasting, pricing strategies, and strategic decision-making.

In this role, you will act as the primary contact for major collectors, institutional clients, and internal partners and build long-term relationships with SCAD alumni, galleries, museums, and other stakeholders. You will represent SCAD Art Sales at key events, work with internal teams to support cross-functional engagement and sales opportunities, and provide outstanding customer service. Additionally, you will manage custom project deliverables. Responsibilities include the management of schedules, assignment of employee duties, and the motivation of a multi-campus sales team to ensure consistent performance and alignment with strategic goals. You will also monitor and follow up on deliverables to ensure accountability and timely results. Among other duties, you will encourage continuous professional development and cross-territory collaboration among team members to foster a culture of high performance, responsiveness, and top-tier customer engagement.

In this position, you will keep accurate data in Salesforce and Banner to support sales efforts, tracking, and reporting. You will create weekly reports for leadership that summarize progress, analytics, and pipeline updates. Responsibilities include the coordination of meetings, maintenance of a master calendar, and prompt communication among internal teams. In collaboration with the SCAD legal team and other departments, you will oversee negotiations and contract processes. You will also ensure compliance with SCAD’s in-kind gift acceptance policies and documentation requirements. Additionally, you will stay informed about art market trends, pricing, and competitor activity to guide sales strategies and approaches.

The ideal candidate exhibits strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills. They are a strategic thinker with proactive business development abilities and outstanding interpersonal and analytical skills. The candidate has a solid professional network within the art community, including extensive knowledge of and connections to SCAD students and alumni. They are also capable of managing multiple, shifting priorities simultaneously.

Minimum qualifications:  
  • Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, or a related field
  • At least seven years of proven success in sales or sales management, preferably within the art or luxury markets
  • Experience managing and developing a sales team
  • Ability to travel extensively as needed 

Preferred qualifications:  
  • Broad knowledge of SCAD artists
  • Ability to speak intelligently about and sell art
  • Working knowledge of SCAD and current exhibitions
  • At least two years of experience working in sales or at SCAD

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:  
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid passport

Travel required:  
  • More than 50%  

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
