About the Position
The Powerful Learning team ensures all learners have consistent and sustained experiences of powerful learning, thus empowering them to thrive in an increasingly complex and technological world. Our work involves engaging in research that contributes to the field of learning sciences; designing solutions that define, model, and provide examples of evidence-based insights that support the implementation of powerful learning; engaging strategic partners and communities to co-design and advance powerful learning solutions; and mentoring leaders within the education ecosystem. Our team, alongside our broader organization, is well-positioned to respond to the emergent needs of the field.
The Powerful Learning Senior Director, Strategy and Innovation will lead strategic initiatives to accelerate the effective integration of emerging technologies in K–12 classrooms and beyond. This role oversees strategic planning, program design, impact evaluation, and resource alignment to drive equitable, student-centered learning powered by technology. Managing three high-impact teams—Strategy & Program Design, Internal Evaluation & Analytics, and Financial Strategy & Contracts—this leader will ensure that cross functional initiatives are grounded in strong evidence, clear strategy, and sustainable resource management. The Senior Director collaborates across internal departments and external partners to define, implement, and sustain a cohesive operational vision that supports innovation, equity, and organizational learning.The ideal candidate brings a systems mindset, deep knowledge of EdTech, and a passion for advancing learning innovation through practical, inclusive design.
Responsibilities
Team Oversight and People Management (Culture and Performance)
- Lead the Powerful Learning Strategy and Innovation team, providing coaching, direction, and vision aligned to Impact Goals
- Ensure all team members have the knowledge, skills, and attributes needed to fulfill their day-to-day responsibilities; ensure all team members understand their critical role in the overall organization
- Provide direction and support to team members specific to the issues and opportunities that come from their responsibilities; intervene as needed to course-correct
- Support Deputy Director to hire and develop team personnel
- Oversee and delegate appropriately to multiple sub teams responsible for executing on Strategy, Evaluation, and Finance
- Advance a culture of transparency, accountability, and adaptive leadership in service of the organization's transformation.
- Foster a culture of feedback, building systems to ensure the team collaboratively engages in ongoing feedback, formally and informally
- Build internal structures that promote cross-team planning, knowledge sharing, and operational alignment.
Strategic & Transformation Leadership
- Lead the development and execution of a strategic plan, transformation roadmap and change initiatives, with a particular focus on emerging technology and education technology
- Ensure alignment of programs, budgets, and internal capabilities to Digital Promise’s mission, strategic goals, long term goals and impact metrics
- Align internal strategy with national trends, emerging technologies, and evolving research on how AI can enhance teaching and learning.
- Advise leadership on high-impact priorities,insights, risks and opportunities that shape decision-making and strategic direction
Program Design & Innovation
- Manage a team that leads program theory of change development, initiative design, and strategic planning support.
- Foster cross-team alignment to ensure all new initiatives are scalable, mission-aligned, and informed by internal and external data.
- Support pilot development, user testing, and iteration cycles for new tech-enabled initiatives.
- Oversee the design and continuous refinement of powerful learning programs that integrate emerging technology and education technology into instructional practices.
Internal Evaluation Strategy & Analytics Oversight
- Supervise a team responsible for the creation and refinement of a logic model and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure program success
- Oversee internal research, performance reporting, and analysis activities to ensure continuous improvement and strategic alignment
- Guide development of metrics, KPIs, and dashboards that inform continuous improvement and strategic decision-making
- Use data to support strategic decisions, storytelling, stakeholder engagement, and funding sustainability, ensuring that insights are translated into action across the team
Finance & Resource Strategy
- Oversee financial strategy staff responsible for leading annual budgeting, long-term financial planning, and forecasting for alignment across Powerful Learning programming and initiatives
- Manage contracts and fee-for-service work streams to ensure compliance, sustainability, and efficiency.
- Partner with the Financial Strategy and contracts team to ensure resourcing strategies align with programmatic and organizational priorities.
Culture
- Contribute positively to the culture of the team, department, and organization
- Ensure organizational health and cultivate a positive and inclusive workplace culture and employee experience
Project Management
- Manage multiple competing priorities and rapidly adapt and respond to district and school requests and timeline changes
- Demonstrate excellent project management skills with an emphasis on attention to detail, timelines, and quality of work
- Lead projects and the development of SOPs as needed
- Engage in Digital Promise projects that promote and advance digital equity and contribute meaningfully to achieving the organization’s impact goals
- Keep key stakeholders in the loop of key action steps needed to drive the work forward
- Influence and motivate others, building connections, anticipating barriers and inspiring action across various contexts to ensure work objectives are met
- Stay abreast of project milestones, weekly project updates, risks and issues
Impact Goals
- Monitor, track, and report progress on relevant goals, for self and direct reports

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s and Master’s in education, educational technology, business, public policy, or related field required
- Equivalent experience will be considered.
Required
- 10+ years of experience in education, technology integration, or innovation strategy - preferably with experience implementing digital tools and emerging technologies in the classroom
- Demonstrated success leading large-scale, cross-functional change in a mission-driven organization
- Experience in strategic planning, program design, and evaluation tied to technology integrated instruction and educational technology research and development
- Strong financial acumen and familiarity with contracts, budgeting, and sustainable resource management
- Proven ability to lead high-performing teams, influence stakeholders, and drive innovation across complex systems
- Exceptional project management skills and ability to lead multiple workstreams simultaneously
- Strong facilitation and collaboration skills; able to influence diverse stakeholders and build consensus
- Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
- Knowledge of functions, features, limitations, and practical applications of the technologies available to support student learning experience and program management (i.e., Asana, Microsoft & Google suites, Salesforce, Qualtrics, etc.)
- Experience working directly with K–12 districts, charter networks, or education nonprofits a plus
- Familiarity with generative AI tools and their classroom applications a plus
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methods, logic models, and adaptive implementation practices a plus
Analytical and Data Skills
- Experience with data analysis and reporting tools
- Ability to research, analyze, and provide a solution to newly identified issues
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to be flexible to project situations
- Proficiency with tools like Qualtrics, Tableau, Grafana or learning analytics dashboards a plus
Relationship Management
- Experienced and demonstrated knowledge of client/partner management
- Highly collaborative, organized, and execution-oriented with strong presentation skills
- Skill in developing, maintaining, and leveraging networks across a range of people and groups inside and outside the organization, such as influential people and learning and performance experts
Communication
- Experience with communication and customer relationship systems such as Slack, Salesforce, and Asana
- Excellent written and oral communication skills appropriate for role, as well as impeccable interpersonal skills
- Skill in applying principles of active listening, such as focusing on what someone is saying, deferring judgment, and responding appropriately
Lifelong Learning
- Skill in acquiring new knowledge through professional development activities for one's self, such as participating in coaching, attending professional conferences, self-directed reading, and monitoring industry trends

Working Conditions
Digital Promise Global is a hybrid organization. The position is primarily working in a remote environment. Employees are expected to travel at least 4 times a year for in-person meetings and the annual staff retreat. Additional travel may be required based on role and responsibilities.
Physical/Sensory Demands: Fast-paced working environment. Extensive computer usage and online engagement & communication. Must be willing to build inclusive relationships and collaborate with employees at all levels within the organization and external partners.
Special Provisions: Occasional work outside normal business hours, such as weekends and evenings required.
Compensation
We consider candidate experience and location when determining where a candidate may fall within that range. Digital Promise Global offers a competitive total rewards package including coverage of 85% of health insurance premiums for employee coverage and 75% of health insurance premiums for dependent and family coverage, 15 vacation days, 12 sick days, 3% 401k employer contribution, 3% employer 401k match, and a flexible work environment.
The full-time salary range for the position is based on geographical regions, with exact salary depending on relevant experience.
California: $170,403-191,704
DC Metro Area & NYC: $154,912-$174,276
National: $139,421-$156,848
