Senior Financial Aid Counselor Full Description

Position Summary: Within the Office of Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Counseling team is dedicated to providing outstanding service to students, families, and community members. The Senior Financial Aid Counselor will advise prospective and admitted students, parents, and currently enrolled students on a broad range of issues pertaining to the financial aid application process, University financial aid policies and procedures, and assist with resolving problems. Evaluate financial aid applications, create and update financial aid packages. Ensure compliance with state, federal, and institutional financial aid policies. Reassess aid packages based on student appeals, updated financial data, enrollment status, or other information and determine any change to students eligibility or their aid package. Process financial aid application materials. Consult with various University offices (Admissions, Registrar, Bursar) and external agencies to resolve issues and answer questions related to financial aid processing. Support the Assistant Directors and Associate Director of Financial Aid Counseling by providing guidance and day-to-day leadership to the Financial Aid Counseling team.

Qualifications: Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience:
3+ years of relevant professional level experience in a financial aid and student services environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and client service skills. Facility with figures and familiarity with automated student financial aid systems. Knowledge of needs' analysis and federal/state financial aid programs. Ability to interpret and apply complex laws, policies and procedures. Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet and database software applications. Use of Federal Student Aid (FSA) systems.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Familiary with IA Plus Student Information System.

Additional Information: In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $77,000.00 to USD $89,100.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
