The Senior Full Stack Software Developer will play a key role in the Strategic Initiatives Technology team, collaborating with a global team to design, build, and deploy features and consumer experiences based on microservices. This role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, collaboration skills, and a passion for innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement designs following Pearson coding standards and industry best practices.
  • Participate in and lead code reviews, ensuring high-quality code adheres to requirements.
  • Collaborate with QA, configuration management, and end-user teams to ensure high-quality software releases. Create testable requirements and write unit tests.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of technology strategy and architecture.
  • Champion the team's engineering work to drive alignment across other teams.
  • Build strong relationships with peers within Engineering and across departments to foster a positive and collaborative culture.
  • Collaborate effectively with product management, design teams, SREs, and other engineering teams throughout the SDLC.
  • Participate in continuous process and product quality improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate a strong desire to learn new development stacks, applications, and tools.
  • Possess excellent problem-solving skills, readily adapting to new processes, tools, and technologies.
  • Think critically and analytically, applying experience to provide solution alternatives and recommendations.
  • Manage time effectively, working well under pressure, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines.
  • Be a self-starter with a strong attention to detail.
  • Mentor and train new team members.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development, creating SaaS/PaaS applications.
  • Full-stack development experience with client-side and server-side technologies (e.g., React, Vue.js, CSS, Node.js, Java Spring, MongoDB, Redis, MQ).
  • Experience with microservice patterns, API development, and RESTful web services.
  • Experience with highly available, highly concurrent web applications.
  • Experience with troubleshooting, logging, and cloud-based APM tools.
  • Proven understanding and practical experience with:
  • Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, XP)
  • Core Java and J2EE principles and best practices
  • Core Spring framework
  • JavaScript, HTML, CSS, TypeScript
  • Design patterns
  • NoSQL, RDBMS, and/or Graph databases
  • Build tools (Jenkins, Gradle, ANT, npm, etc.)
  • Non-functional requirements (Responsive Web Design, Accessibility, Security, Internationalization, Performance, Scalability)
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (a plus).
  • Experience with Kubernetes and Docker (a plus).
  • Experience with infrastructure creation using Terraform (a plus).
  • Proficiency with Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Experience with cloud development platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) a plus.
