As our Senior IT Risk & Compliance Analyst, you will help guide how the University of Alaska (UA) manages risk, compliance, and governance across UA’s 20+ locations statewide. Based in our Fairbanks office, you’ll join the Office of Information Technology’s (OIT) Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) team, collaborating closely with colleagues across the state to improve the university’s compliance posture. This is a senior-level role for a professional who brings established expertise to complex, high-stakes work. You will shape policy, guide risk decisions, and partner with departments across the university system to protect student, research, and institutional data. Your work will have statewide reach, with real, visible impact on UA’s mission of public service to Alaska’s communities. This position requires occasional travel within and outside of Alaska.
To thrive in this role, you will need a strong grasp of regulatory and audit concepts. This includes familiarity with established information security frameworks such as NIST and ISO along with regulations such as FERPA, HIPAA, GLBA, and CMMC. Beyond foundational technical knowledge, translating these complex requirements into practical, enforceable policy requires excellent judgment. You will apply strong analytical and decision-making skills to assess contracts, vendor risk, and security control exceptions daily.
Because this position connects with technical teams, university leadership, and academic departments, your ability to communicate matters just as much as technical depth. Whether breaking down intricate risk concepts for non-technical audiences or training others on key compliance principles, your approach should prioritize clarity and collaboration. As you navigate shifting priorities, competing deadlines, and evolving requirements, your proactive communication and steady hand will be essential to keeping projects moving forward.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two or more relevant IT, risk, audit, and/or cybersecurity certifications (vendor-specific or those from bodies such as ISC(2), ISACA, SANS, CompTIA, etc.) at time of hire (preferred) or within one year of hire.
Travel required.
