Job Description
Job Profile Summary:
The Senior Manager of Career Services leads WGU’s career services programs and initiatives that improve student experiences and career outcomes. Oversees career services operations, and in partnership with leadership, develops strategic objectives that require cross-functional collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Leads projects and initiatives at the organizational level that are key to strategic partnerships, program development, enrollment, alumni relations, and student experiences. Advances awareness of career services programs that are responsive to emerging industries, jobs, and a changing workforce.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 
  • Collaborates with the leadership teams to define career service objectives and outcomes that consistently promote academic success and career development.
  • Participates in developing department roadmaps and leads strategic priorities and projects.
  • Manages career services employees, which includes hiring, training, developing, coaching, and managing performance.
  • Oversees career services operations, develops and implements new programs, ensures business processes and technology meet program requirements, and manages vendor relationships.
  • Develops department objectives and key metrics, measures program and initiative performance.
  • Analyzes, interprets, and utilizes data to drive business decisions and recommendations for improvements in services offerings.
  • Prepares stakeholders reports and delivers presentations on the success of career service programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders on projects and initiatives, gathers stakeholder requirements, develops project timeline and deliverables, ensures stakeholders’ projects align with strategic priorities.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, build consensus, and be sensitive to the needs and interests of various stakeholders.
  • Current knowledge of career trends within higher education, experiential learning, and the labor market.
  • Ability to develop and execute project plans including gathering requirements, collecting data, analyzing results, and deriving insights and recommendations.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and maintain programs and initiatives.
  • Ability to take initiative, be innovative, and adapt to changing environments.
  • Exceptional communication skills, solid organizational skills, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to lead and collaborate with diverse teams within the schools and colleges and the university.
  • Demonstrated ability to use and interpret data to make decisions and communicate results effectively to various stakeholders.
  • Ability to educate and influence colleagues and university stakeholders in understanding the student experience.
  • Extensive knowledgeable in career services best practices, literature, and research to best support WGU learners’ career mobility and outcomes.

Job Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education Administration, Counseling, Human Resources, or equivalent work experience.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in career counseling, career planning and development, human resources, and program and project management, which includes three (3) years leading a team.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Business, Human Resources, or another related discipline.
  • PMP Certification or similar.
  • Change management certification.
  • Experience with competency-based education and online education.
  • 2+ years Salesforce experience
  • Proven experience building reports, dashboards and automation in salesforce

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
