Job Description
Opportunity at a Glance
Working under the direction of the Practice Leader, the Senior Colleague Relations Consultant is responsible for responding to colleague relations issues within established service level agreements.  The incumbent is a consultant on employment law, performance management and good management practice and regularly counsels managers who need advice on dealing with issues in these areas. Effectively balances advocacy for the organization and individual colleagues. This position provides input into colleague relations policies, the Colleague Handbook and processes designed to effectively deal with colleague relations issues.
 
 Responsibilities
  • Provides interpretation and advice to managers on employment law, organization policy interpretation and overall colleague relations issues.
  • Manages a significant case load, driving inquiries to resolution in a timely fashion; handles more serious inquiries with a sense of urgency.
  • Conducts thorough investigations related to claims of harassment or discrimination and makes recommendations for resolution. Provides consulting around routine performance management issues. Helps managers differentiate between performance and behavioral issues.
  • Provides counsel on how to provide constructive feedback, write effective disciplinary actions, and provide clearly written objectives and performance evaluations.
  • Refers managers to appropriate training classes and consulting available on a wide range of management, leadership and teambuilding interventions through the Adtalem Global Education Leadership Center.
  • Proactively keeps the assigned strategic HR consultant current on the progress of investigations and is included in discussions with local management on the resolution of colleague relations issues.
  • Provides excellent customer service through effective resolution of issues within SLAs.
  • Ensures appropriate case details are documented in the case management system.
  • Effectively facilitates training for managers.
  • Handles issues with diplomacy and tact. Demonstrates patience, care for the individuals involved, and creative problem solving.
  • Effectively deescalates issues. Mediates the resolution of colleague complaints.
  • Reviews termination requests and provides HR consulting partners and management with appropriate action plan. Escalates more complex or high risk complaints to the Practice Leader and/or in-house legal counsel.
  • Provides expert level advice on EEO, FMLA, ADA, sexual harassment and hostile work environment related issues, both from a legal and organization-wide policy/practice standpoint. Educates managers regarding the spirit and intent of laws, regulations and company policy. Conducts investigations, reports on potential problem areas and recommends appropriate action.
  • Represents Adtalem Global Education in EEOC hearings and lawsuits.
  • Monitors and responds to employee complaints received through Ethics Point or other formal channels. Communicates/escalates issues to appropriate individuals and assures appropriate resolution.
  • Remains current in applicable state, federal, and in some cases, Caribbean employment law.
  • Participates in policy, process, training and communications-related CRC activities.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree Required.
  • Deep employee relations experience or employment law coursework preferred.
  • 8 years of experience in employee relations with extensive exposure to a wide range of employee relations issues required.
  • In-depth experience with claims and disputes such as EEO, FMLA and ADA including participation in depositions, EEO hearings required.
  • Excellent communications, training, interpersonal skills and influencing skills.
  • Strong facilitation, mediation, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of independently completing complex investigations.
  • Good business acumen and writing skills.
  • Skill in analyzing human resource and management problems and developing effective solutions.
  • SPHR certification Preferred

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $80336.75 and $140851.54. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
